Data, documentation and services

In the modern complex knowledge society, rapid change and omnipresent technology, the population's skills represent a central resource. PIAAC - the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies - for instance, examines how well adults in different OECD-countries are prepared for the challenges of the knowledge society. For your analysis on this topic, you will find curated data, documentation, methodological notes as well as analysis tools and workshops.

The data service of the RDC PIAAC
The RDC provides German and international datasets in the educational field focusing on the adult population, especially on the Survey of Adult Skills. PIAAC measures adults’ skills in literacy, numeracy and the ability to solve problems in technology-rich environments. The international household survey of adults aged 16-65 years is designed as 10-yearly cycles.

Who is the data suitable for?
The data in the educational field, namely PIAAC, LEO or AES, can be used by researchers to pursue scientific questions based on representative adult population samples.

Temporal and geographical scope
You will find data in the educational domain since 1994 (AILS) to 2022 (PIAAC), which can be compared internationally with around 40 countries.
