CEWS celebrates its 25th anniversary with a new name: CEWS - Center for Gender Relations in Academia

Categories: GESIS-News

The CEWS, based at the GESIS – Leibniz Institute for Social Sciences, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. As part of the anniversary activities, the competence center is giving itself a new name: Center for Gender Relations in Academia (at the international level). The well-known abbreviation CEWS will remain unchanged.

“After 25 years, CEWS is presenting itself with a new name. We want to take developments in gender research and equality policy into account. Gender inequalities still exist. At the same time, our field of work has expanded. We want to make this visible with the name change,” explains Dr. Lena Weber (Head of CEWS).

In its anniversary year 2025, the CEWS is making it clear with the name change: We want to make science and research non-discriminatory, gender-sensitive, and respectful—today just as much as 25 years ago.

Note to our international partners:

We kindly ask you to update the full name of CEWS – Center for Gender Relations in Academia – on external websites and materials accordingly.
