New EU-Project:“GEECCO – Gender Equality in Engineering through Communication and Commitment”

Categories: Forschung

In May 2017, the project "Gender Equality in Engineering through Communication and Commitment" (GEECCO) with GESIS participation was launched under the direction of the Vienna University of Technology. The project (2017 to 2021) addresses the question of how higher education institutions and research funding agencies can effectively improve their gender equality and how to achieve greater equality of opportunity in the field of STEM subjects. Involving institutions from seven European countries (Austria, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Germany), different inequality dimensions and challenges regarding equal opportunities for women and men in both research and research funding institutions will be addressed.

The aim of the GEECCO project is to guide and implement transformation processes towards more gender equality in the participating institutions. The common starting point of the involved research institutions is the development of packages of measures that increase the participation of women in academic careers in the field of STEM subjects. For this purpose, action plans for gender equality are being prepared by the participating universities. The overall objective is to create work environments in which women and men alike can develop their full potential.
