Keeping a distance was and is the top recommendation for containing the Corona pandemic. Despite the relevance of government guidance, it is evident that citizens keep their distance primarily when they trust political institutions. Successful current as well as future pandemic response therefore also requires strengthening trust in political institutions and the rules that produce them.
