Quality Control of Survey Instruments

The survey instruments used in surveys should reflect the facts of interest as accurately as possible.
In this section, methods for quality assurance of measuring instruments are presented. An overview of the current requirements for the development and documentation of survey instruments is provided by the quality standards that are being developed on behalf of the RatSWD. Six quality standards are presented, which were developed on the basis of established methods and supplemented by procedures for quality assurance.

In addition, you will find further contributions that shed light on specific aspects of quality assurance, e.g:

  • how to estimate the accuracy of a measurement, the reliability, with different methods
  • successfully develop and test a questionnaire using cognitive pretests or web probing
  • refine cognitive pretesting with the help of eye tracking
  • validate your online survey tools through web probing
