The Methods Seminar takes place at GESIS, Cologne in September. Its courses are taught by both GESIS and international experts and cover methods and techniques for collecting and analyzing digital behavioral data (“big data”), for example Machine Learning or Text Mining. Lectures in each course are complemented by hands-on exercises giving participants the opportunity to apply these methods to data. All courses are held in English.
The GESIS Methods Seminar targets, social scientists, data scientists, and researchers in the digital humanities that collect and analyze data from the web, social media, or ditigal text archives.
The detailed program of the GESIS Methods Seminar is usually published in the spring.
Each course has specific prerequisites, which will be detailed on the course websites. In addition, all Methods Seminar participants are expected to:
- have basic knowledge of empirical research methods;
- have a good command of English.
