Class-specific costs of maintaining status

Project description
In this project, we look at class-specific differences in the costs of maintaining status in a European comparison. We use two different constructs to measure the costs of maintaining status: (1) a quantitative measure in which we relate disposable income to the required income; (2) a qualitative measure in which households state that they can make do with their disposable income. In terms of content, we investigate the question of whether a class-specific habitus (in the sense of cultural and social participation) has an influence on the costs of maintaining status. Methodologically, we are interested in the comparison of different measures of status maintenance costs as well as the comparison of different operationalizations of socio-economic classes.
