The effect of parental wealth on educational decisions

Project description:
In the DFG project, we investigate the effects of parental wealth, measured as net wealth, on three educational transitions of their children: 1) the transition from primary to secondary school, 2) transitions within secondary school and 3) transitions after successful completion of upper secondary school.
The specific contribution of our project will be threefold.First, we will empirically test whether parental wealth has an independent effect on their children's educational decisions; second, we will test a number of potential causal mechanisms linking these two variables; and third, we will test for heterogeneity in the relationship between parental wealth and their children's educational decisions across the wealth distribution.
