RDC PIAAC

The Research Data Centre PIAAC (RDC) provides guidance and advice with respect to national and international PIAAC data sets, data analyses and tools.

The Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) is a study conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which aims to examine adult competencies in an international comparison. The PIAAC study is conducted at 10-year intervals. The first wave of the survey was conducted in 2011 and 2012. The survey is based on a representative population sample (16- to 65-year-olds).

In Germany, PIAAC was also transformed into a panel (PIAAC-L), in which participants from PIAAC 2012 in Germany who agreed to be potentially re-surveyed were re-surveyed over three years (2014, 2015 and 2016). In Germany, several national extensions of the PIAAC survey were carried out yielding additional data for older adults (66-80 years of age), an oversample of 26-55-year-old adults in former Eastern Germany, and data from a longitudinal follow-up of the German 2011/2012 respondents.

The RDC PIAAC main activities are:

  • Data preparation and documentation
  • Data access
  • User support
  • Knowledge transfer (e.g. workshops)
  • Research
