The many faces of GESIS

Vita

In 2005, completed vocational training and obtained a technical diploma (Business Assistant for Business Informatics with a focus on Information Processing) in Bad Godesberg. 

From 2006 to 2007, underwent training as a computer science expertsoftware development at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Cologne (IHK).

In 2008 to 2010, bachelor's program in Biomathematics/Bioinformatics at RheinAhrCampus in Remagen. 

Since May 2011, employed at GESIS - Leibniz Institute for Social Sciences, working in the development and automation of information processes in the social sciences in Bonn/Cologne.

In 2013, began further training as an Operative ProfessionalCertified IT Systems Manager (IHK). Completed a project thesis from 2014 to 2015, connecting the social science portal Sowiport to the GESIS Single Sign-On infrastructure. The goal was to enable federated authentication for GESIS portal users using their employer accounts through the German Research Network's Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure (DFN-AAI). This was achieved through the integration of a Service Provider (SP) installation and prototype development for Sowiport.

Obtained the training qualification for instructors (AEVO) in 2015.

In 2016, completed the advanced training as a Certified IT Systems Manager (IHK). Key competencies include:

  • Technical engineering
  • Development of system and software architectures
  • Project management
  • Organizing efficient work and system processes
  • Planning and implementing quality assurance activities

In 2017, received special recognition as the best in the Fortbildungsqualifikation (professional development qualification) among the nearly 4,000 individuals who took their further education exams at IHK Cologne.

Development and Automation of Information Processes:

  • Debugging and test-driven development of the automated linking of publications and research data (InFoLiS).
  • Import procedures for heterogeneous data sources into the GESIS-wide search (GWS).
  • Integration of Sowiport with the Single Sign-On infrastructure of GESIS.
  • Automated import procedures for data sets in Sowiport.
  • Procedures for uninterrupted data import into the document-based database of Sowiport.
  • Further development of search technology in Sowiport.
  • Field-based search in SOFISwiki (SMW Extension SolrStore).
  • Import and export procedures in SOFISwiki.
