The pandemic has suddenly and dramatically changed our lives in a way not seen since World War II. For social scientists, this was a wake-up call to heed Durkheim's appeal: “Sociology is not worth an hour's work if it is only speculative.” An interdisciplinary team of authors led the investigation into society's response to these dramatic changes triggered by the pandemic and published “Social Life during COVID-19 in France, Germany, Italy, and the UK” in 2025. The blog post highlights the findings.
The new post on the GESIS blog looks back on the pandemic and examines its impact.
