On July 1st, 2018, Prof. Dr. Stefan Dietze accepted the postion as a head of the GESIS WTS department and a W3 professorship for computer science at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.
With a research focus lying at the interface between artificial intelligence, information retrieval and semantic technologies, Prof. Dr. Stefan Dietze is predestined for the management of the department "Knowledge Technologies for the Social Sciences" at GESIS. The Department develops new digital services for the social sciences based on innovative knowledge technologies. To ensure a high level of quality considering the rapid change in information and knowledge technologies, the department conducts research in the field of applied computer and information science.
Prof. Dr. Stefan Dietze received his Ph.D. from the Institute for Computer Science of the University of Potsdam (Ph.D. / Dr. rer. nat. in Applied Computer Science), Germany, in 2004. His professional career led him to the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering (ISST) in Berlin. Then, he spent five years as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Knowledge Media Institute (KMi) of The Open University in Milton Keynes, UK. Before joining GESIS, he led a research group at the L3S research center at Leibniz University Hannover.
Prof. Dr. Stefan Dietze succeedsPeter Mutschke at the head of the department "Knowledge Technologies for the Social Sciences" (WTS).
