Vita

Markus Baumann studied political science and economics (M.A.) at the University of Mannheim and holds a Ph.D. in political science from Mannheim University. In his dissertation he explored individualized preference formation and decision making by legislators in European parliaments and - in particular - how to measure those using text as data approaches.

Before joining Gesis, he has held pre- and post-doc positions at the Collaborative Research Center 884 – Political Economy of Reforms (University of Mannheim), at the Professorship for the Political System of Germany (University of Oldenburg), at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES), at the Department of Political Science (Lund University), at the Institute of Political Science (Heidelberg University), and at Goethe University Frankfurt. 

Since March 2023 Markus Baumann works on the Presidential Staff as a coordinator within the Special Purpose Grant Digital Behavioral Data. In addition, as Program Manager, he is responsible for the content of the GESIS Doctoral Program's curriculum.
