Before joining GESIS in December 2015, Sebastian worked as a research associate at the LIfBi — Leibniz-Institute for Educational Trajectories, at the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS), and in his own BMBF-funded project on "Discrimination in Education: Micro Mechanisms and Macro Determinants".
From 2003 to 2009 he studied Social Sciences (Sociology, Social Psychology, Statistics, Educational Psychology) at the University of Mannheim (Germany) and Indiana University Bloomington (USA).
In his research, Sebastian is concerned with different questions from fields and areas that include: sociology of education, discrimination, stereotypes and prejudice, theories of action, analytical sociology, quantitative methods and methodology, philosophy of science. In his dissertation he makes methodological and theoretical contributions and uses observational and experimental data to provide new empirical evidence on discrimination in German education.
