The research field of bibliometrics broadly deals with communication patterns of modern science. Bibliometric methods and indicators are also widely used in the governance of research and in national and organizational assessment systems. A wide variety of actors collect and analyse bibliometric data for evaluative  purposes. The main aim of the project is to identify individual and collective actors active in the scientific field of bibliometrics on the one hand and of the growing expert field on the other hand and to study their interrelations. Theoretically, the project is especially informed by the works of Andrew Abbott (1988) and his theory of professions and seeks to establish what the future professional jurisdiction in quantitative research assessment will look like.
