Abstract

Personality characteristics influence important indicators of life success, such as health, life satisfaction, as well as training and professional success. The purpose of the proposed project is therefore to examine whether personality characteristics also influence the success of the transition from school to training or study. In addition, changes in personality are to be illuminated as antecedents and consequences of these educational transitions. The questionnaire will be examined with four major longitudinal studies: the National Educational Panel Survey (NEPS), the Sozioökonomisches Panel (SOEP), the Study Transitions in Different Educational Systems (TIDES) and the Transformation des Sekundarschulsystems und akademische Karrieren (TOSCA). The so-called Big Five (Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability and Openness) are primarily considered as personality characteristics. Indicators for successful educational transitions are objective indicators such as the acquisition of a training place or the dropping out of training / study, as well as subjective indicators such as changes in health and life satisfaction after transitions.
