Assurance and Re-Use of Research Data from the Framework Programme for the Promotion of Empirical Educational Research – Part Project GESIS

Team: Marcus Eisentraut
Leader: Reiner Mauer
Scientific unit: Data Archive for the Social Sciences (DAS)

This co-operation project pursues the joint objective of developing and implementing an efficient and at the same time sustainable, effective set of measures for assuring, preparing and making available data from the Framework Programme.

Given that the respective requirements present a new dimension regarding their volume and complexity, the work will be carried out in co-operative form. Tasks will be distributed among the research data centres of the three institutions involved in educational research, i.e. DIPF, GESIS and IQB. It will thus be possible to effectively pool and network existing expertise and resources.

Based on collaborative and quality-focused work, the project will generate important technological, organizational and administrative foundations for future data preservation and dissemination projects beyond the current research data from the Framework Programme at the same time. A second objective concerns a pilot preparation of selected data packages for the objects, which will be made available to the scientific community for secondary use. These two objectives will be complemented by a forward looking education and training module.

In this cooperation project, GESIS will develop the central data referencing system and the respective metadata scheme as well as the training component. Beyond that GESIS will be responsible for archiving quantitative survey data.
