We conduct research to optimize the data quality in surveys
Striving for high data quality is fundamental to ensuring the validity and reliability of social science research. Errors, incompleteness or inconsistencies can affect the validity of analyses and undermine confidence in the reported findings.
Factors contributing to poor data quality generally fall into two fields: that of measurement of the characteristics to be investigated, notably via the questionnaire, and that of representing the target population through the survey sample. We are conducting intensive research in both fields.
Data Quality
In our research, we focus on ways and methods to employ to collect high quality data. On the one hand, we look into measurement and questionnaires to collect data that is as valid, reliable and equivalent (in the case of intercultural research) as possible. On the other hand, we look into sampling, representation and survey design in order to reach and cover the target population in the best possible way.
Measurement and Questionnaires
Our research efforts are directed towards improving the development process of individual items/questions and survey instruments, as well as evaluating the quality of the resulting data.
Representation and Samples
Our focus lies on sampling methods and the conditions of data collection or fieldwork conducive to establishing representative data.
