The sampling design, in particular sample size and sample composition, are directly related to the representativeness of survey results. Questions related to the selection of random samples and estimations based on sample data are in the focus of the research activities in the area of survey statistics.
One aspect of this research is dedicated to telephone surveys. Within the DFG research project MiMoSe (Quality management for telephone surveys in a framework of mixed-mode surveys between telephone and online samples) guidelines are developed for designing dual-frame telephone samples.
Further research topics are:
- Implementation of complex sampling design
- Planning of sample sizes
- Variance estimation
- Weighting strategies for sample surveys
- Causal models and causal search algorithms
