The GESIS Training Team is very concerned about the health of its participants and lecturers. For this reason we are currently working on an alternative way to provide our events via online training up to and including end of August 2020. That includes also the GESIS Summer School in Survey Methodology and the Methods Seminar taking place in September.
As of today (29.04.2020), we plan to continue our event program with on-site training courses after this date. If this is not possible, we go on working on alternative virtual courses. For existing bookings, we will of course refund all participation fees if you do not wish to participate in an online course. However, we cannot refund any further costs resulting from the cancellation.
If we offer on-site trainings again, please note that we cannot admit participants to our events if one of the following points applies:
People who have tested positive for Covid-19
People who have been classified as contact persons by a health authority
People who have been recommended for home quarantine by the public health department or a doctor
People who have had direct contact with a person suffering from Covid-19
People with fever; people suffering from acute respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath)
Please consult your national authorities before travelling and check whether there are any travel warnings or restrictions. You can usually find travel advice on the websites of your Foreign Office (e.g. travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories.html/ or www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice). If you have not yet booked your trip to GESIS, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance. If possible, only book accommodation/travel arrangements with a cancellation option. Given the current situation, many travel companies/airline companies are very accommodating in their handling of cancellations/rebookings. Please be conscientious with your decision for your good and the good of your fellow human beings.

The GESIS Training team is committed to the principles of Open Science. For our events this means the following:
- We would like to encourage our participants to work according to the principles of Open Science in their own research activities. To this end, we regularly offer courses that present these principles and teach practical ways of implementing them.
- We use free and open source software in our events whenever possible.
- We encourage our lecturers to use freely accessible data sets.
- Our lecturers* make their teaching materials available to our event participants*. In addition to scripts, these also contain syntax files and exercise data sets.

GESIS Summer School
Every August since 2012, the GESIS Summer School in Survey Methodology takes place at GESIS, Cologne. Lecturers and participants from all over the world and from many different fields come to Cologne to take part in Europe's leading summer school on survey methodology, research design, and data collection.
GESIS Spring Seminar
The GESIS Spring Seminar has been taking place in Cologne annually for more than 40 years. It offers three consecutive one-week courses in advanced methods of quantitative data analysis for Social Scientists. Language of instruction is English.
Since 1980, the GESIS Methodenseminar offers courses that teach basic knowledge and skills in quantitative data analysis. The courses are held in both German and English. The Methodenseminar has a modular structure and follows an interdisciplinary approach.
GESIS Workshops are short courses of one to three days covering a large variety of Social Science research methods, ranging from quali-
tative interviews to questionnaire construction, from sampling procedures and introduction to specific survey programmes through to data analysis. Most Workshops are conducted in German, but some are offered in English.
CSS Capacity Building & Training
GESIS sustains the formation of an interdisciplinary community in the field of Computational Social Science (CSS) by organizing a summer school on methods in CSS and by offering further training courses in data science and CSS methods. Our conferences and symposia provide for tutorials and hands-on-workshops. The GESIS Computational Social Science (CSS) Seminar is a monthly event for expert exchange on data science and social analytics (conducted in English).
