Die Economie des conventions (kurz EC) hat sich in Frankreich als institutioneller Ansatz in den letzten drei Jahrzehnten etabliert und erhält seitdem wachsende internationale Anerkennung. Von Beginn an hat die EC eine sowohl pragmatische als auch historische Perspektive auf ökonomische Koordination und ökonomische Institutionen eingeführt. Die EC hat Recht von ihren Anfängen an in die Analyse mit einbezogen. Die EC begreift Recht nicht als externen „constraint“, sondern als in die Handlungen und Koordination eingelagert und als offen für interpretative und situative Anpassung durch kompetente Akteure. In der sozio-historischen Analyse des Rechts analysiert die EC die Bedeutung des Rechts aus der Sicht von Akteuren, die sich in ihrer Koordination auf Konventionen stützen. Das Special Issue demonstriert, dass die EC in der sozio-historischen Analyse des Rechts eine transdisziplinäre Alternative zu Ansätzen wie „Law & economics“ oder dem ökonomischen Neoinstitutionalismus sein kann.

Wie können wir komplexere Bilder von historischen Prozessen der Wissensproduktion erzeugen? Die Antwort, die die Beiträge zu diesem HSR Focus auf diese Frage anbieten, lautet: Indem man Konzepte verbindet, die bislang in der Regel getrennt voneinander behandelt worden sind. Die Artikel dieses Focus’ bringen Ansätze des material und der spatial turns zusammen, um drei beispielhafte Konstellationen zu diskutieren, in denen neues Wissen hergestellt wird: Objekte, die Räume produzieren; Objekte, die durch durch unterschiedliche Räume zirkulieren und musealisierte Objekte.
