Vita

Johannes Breuer studierte Medienwissenschaften (Medienpsychologie & Medienkulturwissenschaft) an der Universität zu Köln (Diplom, 2007). Nach seinem Studium war er zunächst von 2007 bis 2010 als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter bei Prof. Dr. Gary Bente im EU-Projekt „Psychologically Augmented Social Interaction Over Networks“ (PASION) an der Universität zu Köln tätig. Anschließend arbeitete er von 2010 bis 2014 im ERC-Projekt „The Social Fabric Of Virtual Life: A longitudinal multi-method study on the social foundations of online gaming“ (SOFOGA) bei Prof. Dr. Thorsten Quandt (2010-2012: Universität Hohenheim; 2012-2014: Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster). 2013 schloss er seine Promotion (Dr. phil.) in Psychologie an der Universität zu Köln mit einer Arbeit zum Thema Computerspiele, Lernen und Aggression ab. Im Anschluss daran arbeitete er von Januar 2015 bis März 2017 als Postdoktorand an der Professur für Medien- und Kommunikationspsychologie (Prof. Dr. Gary Bente) an der Universität zu Köln und von April 2015 bis März 2017 zudem im ERC-Projekt „Redefining Tie Strength: How social media (can) help us to get non-redundant information and emotional support“ (ReDefTie, Leitung: Prof. Dr. Sonja Utz) am Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien in Tübingen. Johannes Breuer ist seit April 2017 bei GESIS tätig. Zunächst als Postdoc im Team Data Linking and Data Security (Abteilung Datenarchiv für die Sozialwissenschaften), von Juni 2021 bis September 2023 als Senior Researcher im Team Survey Data Augmentation (Department Survey Data Curation) und seit Oktober 2023 als Senior Researcher im Team Digital Society Observatory (Department Computational Social Science). Seit Juli 2021 leitet er zudem das Team Research Data & Methods am Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) in Bochum (von Oktober 2021 bis September 2023 gemeinsam mit Katrin Weller).
