Call for Proposals: Schwerpunktthema „Immigration und Einstellungen gegenüber ethnischen und religiösen Minderheiten“ im ALLBUS 2027
Der ALLBUS 2027 ist als selbstadministrierte Mixed-Mode-Erhebung (schriftlich-postalisch/online) geplant. Die Befragungsdauer beträgt insgesamt ca. 45 Minuten.
Das Schwerpunktthema „Immigration und Einstellungen gegenüber ethnischen und religiösen Minderheiten“ ist als Themenschwerpunkt zum vierten Mal Teil des ALLBUS Programms (nach 1996, 2006 und 2016). Dabei sollen Fragen zu den Themen „Wahrnehmung und Diskriminierung von Migranten“, „Einstellungen zu Migranten“ und „Politische Präferenzen zum Zuzug und Einbürgerung“ aus dem Jahr 2016 repliziert werden.
Es verbleiben noch 5 Minuten Befragungszeit, die befüllt werden können.
Wir laden Sie ein, neue Themen oder Fragen vorzuschlagen, die das bisherige Schwerpunktmodul erweitern. Möglich sind sowohl Vorschläge für neue Einzelfragen, für neue Skalen aber auch für kurze Fragemodule. Experimentelle Designs sind aufgrund des weiterhin verwendeten Papierfragebogens nur in begrenztem Umfang möglich.
Über die Berücksichtigung der Vorschläge entscheidet die Studien-Koordinationsgruppe ALLBUS im Frühjahr 2026. Alle Bewerber:innen werden unverzüglich über den Ausgang des Verfahrens informiert. Bei Bedarf wird die ALLBUS-Gruppe die ausgewählten Vorschläge in Absprache mit den Autor:innen entsprechend den Bedürfnissen des Programms überarbeiten.

This is the second of three talks on researcher data access under the Digital Services Act (DSA), invited and organized by Yannik Peters, Johannes Gruber and Kathrin Weller (all GESIS). This series of three talks is part of "Social Media Data in Research Practice: Show & Tell" format, organized by the working group Social Media Data in Research Practice, an initiative of Text+, NFDI4Culture, KonsortSWD – NFDI4Society and BERD@NFDI as part of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI).
Call for Applications for the Data Quality Academy Certificate Program 2026
The call for applications for the KODAQS Academy’s certificate program is open. The program is aimed at early-career researchers from various disciplines who work with social science data. Over the course of this six-month program, participants strengthen their skills in quality-assured data processing and gain practical insights into the creation and use of high-quality research data. A strong practical orientation is ensured through online self-paced courses, regular online meetings, and networking opportunities with relevant data-producing institutions. The program will take place from March to September 2026 in a blended-learning format and concludes with a certificate.
On April 23–24, 2026, GESIS Mannheim will host the KODAQS Workshop “Measurement Error in Surveys and the Integration of New Data Forms: Tools, Indicators, and Workflows.” The event focuses on practical and methodological advances for assessing and mitigating measurement error in both traditional surveys and linked data sets such as survey data linked with digital traces. Researchers are invited to submit conceptual, methodological, or applied contributions – including open-source tools and AI-supported methods – that address measurement error detection, quality indicators, and practical tools.
The workshop is organized by KODAQS. Participation is free, and travel support of up to 400€ is available. Abstracts (max. 300 words) are due by February 15, 2026. For more information or to submit your abstract, contact Fabienne Kraemer (Fabienne.Kraemer(at)gesis.org).

Qualitative researchers will find the Causal Models for Qualitative and Mixed Methods workshop useful; it will show how to leverage your project – whether relying on process tracing or another method – with causal reasoning, as well as how to combine diverse data sources and methods in a coherent, transparent, and analytically rigorous way. If you are looking for a more tailored approach beyond the ready-made techniques, our Bayesian Modeling workshop will take you from the fundamentals of Bayesian statistics to building custom models for your specific research need, for example, longitudinal analyses. And for anyone looking for the next steps, the Spring Seminar program will provide an in depth exploration of Advanced Problems in Multilevel and Longitudinal Modeling and in Structural Equation Modeling, among others, with panel data.

Neuer Blog-Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit Qualitätskriterien für Digitale Verhaltensdaten
Digitale Technologien haben unser Leben tiefgreifend verändert. Soziale Medien, Online-Plattformen und Smartphones sind selbstverständlicher Teil unseres Alltags. Sie erzeugen Mengen sogenannter digitaler Verhaltensdaten (Digital Behavioral Data, kurz DBD) also Spuren menschlichen und algorithmischen Handelns im digitalen Raum. Allerdings entstehen digitale Verhaltensdaten als Nebenprodukte täglicher Online-Aktivitäten. Diese Daten wurden – anders als sozialwissenschaftliche Umfragedaten – nicht zu Forschungszwecken erhoben.
Dies wirft Fragen für die Forschung auf, wie zum Beispiel die, ob die Daten vollständig, genau und repräsentativ sind. Ein Überblick über aktuelle Forschung über digitale Verhaltensdaten.
New blog post discusses quality criteria for digital behavioral data
Digital technologies have profoundly changed our lives. Social media, online platforms, and smartphones are a taken-for-granted part of our everyday life. They generate quantities of so-called Digital Behavioral Data, DBD — traces of human and algorithmic actions in the digital space. The problem is that DBD arise as a by-product of daily online activities. These data were — unlike social-science survey data — not collected for research purposes.
This raises questions for researchers, such as whether the data are complete, accurate, and representative. An overview of current research on Digital Behavioral Data.

Der sechste Deutsche Freiwilligensurvey (FWS) mit Daten aus 2024 ist jetzt veröffentlicht. Die repräsentative Befragung zum freiwilligen Engagement in Deutschland wird seit 1999 alle fünf Jahre durchgeführt und ist für Politik, Forschung und zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen eine wertvolle Ressource, um Trends im sozialen Engagement zu verstehen. Der Schwerpunkt der sechsten Erhebung lag auf Fragen zur Internetnutzung und Digitalisierung.
Der FWS ist Teil der GESIS Community Data Collection, in der Daten aus der wissenschaftlichen Community aufbereitet, archiviert und für die wissenschaftliche Nutzung zur Verfügung gestellt werden.
Data set of the month: German Survey on Volunteering 2024

The sixth German Volunteer Survey (FWS) with data from 2024 has now been published. The representative survey on volunteer work in Germany has been conducted every five years since 1999 and is a valuable resource for politicians, researchers, and civil society organizations seeking to understand trends in social engagement. The sixth survey focused on questions relating to internet use and digitalization.
The FWS is part of the GESIS Community Data Collection, in which data from the scientific community is processed, archived, and made available for scientific use.

Die OECD-Studie PIAAC lieferte Ende 2024 erstmals international vergleichbare Daten zum adaptiven Problemlösen, die nun für Deutschland systematisch ausgewertet wurden: Danach liegt die adaptive Problemlösekompetenz der Erwachsenen in Deutschland über dem internationalen Durchschnitt der rund 30 teilnehmenden Länder – trotz deutlicher Unterschiede innerhalb der Bevölkerung.

At the end of 2024, the OECD PIAAC study provided internationally comparable data on adaptive problem solving for the first time, which has now been systematically evaluated for Germany: According to the study, the adaptive problem-solving skills of adults in Germany are above the international average of the approximately 30 participating countries – despite significant differences within the population.

While gender equality and attitudes towards gender roles have become a topic of increased public interest, little attention has been drawn to the phenomenon of antifeminism as a distinct form of opposition against women’s emancipation.
The present study examines the psychometric properties of the four-item Leipzig Antifeminism Short Scale (LAF-S) in a representative German sample (N = 2,459). Results suggest good internal consistency and external validity. Unidimensionality was confirmed, and measurement invariance may be assumed across various sociodemographic groups.

The COVID-19 pandemic posed a major challenge for the implementation of population surveys, particularly longitudinal studies such as repeated cross-sectional and panel surveys. Utilizing the metadata of 576 surveys conducted as part of 95 longitudinal survey programs in Germany, the authors show how existing longitudinal surveys differed in their survey collection practices from the newly established longitudinal surveys.

Wahrscheinlich sind Sie schon einmal auf dieses Problem gestoßen. Regressionsergebnisse, die sich je nach Umgang mit fehlenden Werten in Ihrer abhängigen Variablen ändern. Eine lange Reihe von Fragen, bei denen viele Befragte durchgehend dieselbe Antwortoption auswählen. Eine Itembatterie, die offenbar nicht das von Ihnen beabsichtigte Konzept misst. Oder ein Panel-Datensatz, bei dem im Laufe der Zeit nach und nach ganze demografische Untergruppen verloren gehen. Diese Probleme treten in realen Umfragedaten häufig auf. Sie lösen möglicherweise keine Fehlermeldungen aus und fallen in unseren Analysen nicht sofort ins Auge, aber wenn wir sie ignorieren, können sie unsere Ergebnisse still und systematisch verfälschen.

Chances are, you’ve run into this before. Regression results that change depending on how you handle missing values in your dependent variable. A long item battery where many respondents select the same response option all the way through. A set of survey items that do not seem to measure the concept you had in mind. Or a panel dataset that gradually loses entire demographic subgroups over time. These issues are common in real-world survey data. They may not trigger error messages or stand out immediately in our analyses, but they can quietly and systematically bias our findings if we ignore them.
