#IC2S2: When Social Science meets Computer Science - GESIS will host the major conference on Computational Social Science 2017 in Cologne

Kategorien: Pressemitteilung

GESIS will host the 3rd annual International Conference on Computational Social Science (IC2S2). The conference has quickly grown into the premier venue specialized on the new field of computational social science.  The conference features distinguished keynote speakers who attract attention beyond the borders of their individual research disciplines.

After successful events in Helsinki 2015 and Evanston, IL 2016, the conference will now take place in Cologne, Germany, on July 10-13, 2017.

IC2S2 is an interdisciplinary event designed to engage a broad community of researchers – academics, industry experts, open data activists, government agency workers, and think tank analysts – dedicated to advancing social science knowledge through computational methods. The conference offers the opportunity to meet and discuss work in which social systems and dynamics are investigated in a quantitative way through large datasets that are either mined from various sources (e.g. social media, communication systems), or created via controlled experiments or computational modeling.

GESIS – Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences is the largest infrastructure institution for the Social Sciences in Germany. With more than 300 employees in two locations (Mannheim and Cologne) GESIS render substantial, nationally and internationally relevant research-based infrastructure services. Computational Social Science is one of the main research topics at GESIS. The researchers develop algorithms and novel, non-obtrusive methods for the social sciences based on state-of-the-art approaches from the domains of machine learning, data mining and network analysis.
