Data Access

Data Download via DBK

The GESIS data catalogue provides complete ISSP data and documentation materials, including GESIS Data Archive variable reports/ codebooks, basic questionnaires (in English), and country specific materials as printable PDF files. Downloads are available free of charge after registration.

Besides the data access itself, the GESIS data catalogue DBK offers study descriptions containing substantial and methodological information and gives information on ‘Errata & Versions’. Errata are always fixed to a data set version and need to be taken into consideration when analyzing this data.  Each data set version has a unique persistent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) which is an important element for the correct citation of a data set.

Online Analysis

The GESIS online data portal ZACAT provides ISSP data and documentation. Its main purpose of use is to enable users to perform basic online analyses. ZACAT is publically available and free of charge. For information on the use of ZACAT, see ZACAT user guide.

Search Facility

There are two options for searching the ISSP data and documents:

The Question Text Retrieval to search for one word or phrases in ISSP-Codebooks, Basic Questionnaires and Method Reports and

ZACAT, that provides simple as well as detailed search facilities over all questions and variables of the ISSP series [see a step-by-step guide (627 kB) using Eurobarometer as example].
