Since 2008 the Equal Opportunity Officer at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf has published a brochure entitled "Meine Heine-Frau", containing profiles of female researchers, students or colleagues who have made an outstanding contribution in terms of their work or social engagement. As well as honouring individuals, the profiles of female professors, doctors, staff members and students represent many women in the various professional groups at HHU and therefore serve as role models for other women at the university. The Equal Opportunity Officer invites nominations from staff and students at HHU every two years.

As well as the awarding of final stage fellowships for female early career researchers (for completion of doctorate and habilitation), financial support is also available for projects in women's studies and gender studies and those designed to make equal opportunity for women and men a reality. Funding is offered for:

• completion fellowships for doctorates and habilitation
• remuneration for teaching positions in women's and gender studies and for guest lectures, symposiums or lecture series on gender-related issues or in fields where women are markedly under-represented
• projects to achieve equal opportunity for women and men, e.g. advanced training (individual or group training), gender sensitisation and career development and projects to address gender under-representation

In winter semester 2012/13, under the guidance of teaching staff, students in the Applied Cognition and Media Studies BSc course developed concepts and wrote scripts to then produce short films on the theme of stereotypes and discrimination in day-to-day university life. The films are based on intensive theoretical engagement with stereotypes and the associated mechanisms. On the practical side, students learned camera skills and video editing techniques. The theoretical and practical input was supported by talks from practitioners in gender mainstreaming, diversity management and anti-discrimination at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

The programme line "ARIADNEReWi" at Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) supports selected female early career researchers at FAU pursuing an academic career in law or economics for a period of 18 months. It is tailored to the relevant faculty and embedded in the university's mentoring system, ARIADNE. The programme is aimed at researchers preparing for habilitation, postdoctoral researchers and doctoral researchers in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law and, in exceptional cases, (female) law students near the end of their degrees who wish to obtain further academic qualifications or pursue a university career.

The programme is based on a mentoring system, with experienced academics acting as mentors. The mentoring system is complemented by a supporting programme and seminars on academic topics, tailored to the current needs of participants. This programme allows participants to acquire career-relevant key qualifications, which may be general or specific to their field, as well as knowledge about structures, processes and conventions in research. They acquire valuable insights and benefit from the experience of a professionally advanced and successful researcher. They are given the opportunity to better establish themselves in the scientific community through the formation of and integration in informal and academic networks. Over a period of 18 months the programme encourages female early career researchers to actively plan and pursue their academic careers. It also promotes participants' self-confidence as researchers. Together with their mentors they develop concrete plans for achieving their interim goals on the road to an academic career.

The funding principle is based on the cascade model. The programme is aimed at subject areas and qualification levels where women are under-represented.

The ARIADNEmed Mentoring Program is a joint program of the Medical Faculty of the FAU and the University Hospital Erlangen.

The aim of the programme is to promote the next generation of female scientists and to increase the proportion of women in scientific management positions and professorships.

The programme combines individual mentoring counselling by a person with career experience with seminars on interdisciplinary and personal competence development. Participation in the programme and the transfer of experience strengthen the identity of young female scientists as scientists and promote the expansion of their own network.

The "Berufungsportal" (academic appointments portal) at Technische Universität Dortmund (TU Dortmund) is a service and information platform that gives applicants an insight into the appointment system used at TU Dortmund. The portal also provides a wealth of information and resources for everyone involved in the appointment process. The academic appointment process at TU Dortmund follows a defined model. This process is explained in 17 steps from the decision to commence an appointment process to the final appointment of the chosen candidate. For each phase, detailed information is given about the requirements, necessary actions and relevant contacts. One page on the portal summarises the legal framework and contains a list of links to relevant legislation as well as the appointment regulations and the university's appointment guidelines. To raise awareness among appointments committee members there are other pages covering various aspects of gender equality in the appointment process, such as gender bias and homosocial co-optation.
