You know exactly what you are looking for, e.g. survey data on values in specific countries, in specific time periods, on specific topics?
Here, you can find at a glance which countries participated, when which waves were surveyed, and quickly get to further information and the data download.

Wave after wave, the European Values Study has improved its methodological standards by harmonizing procedures more closely, applying the latest developments in survey research, and increasing the transparency of processes through monitoring and detailed documentation.

The essential features of the EVS methodology are

  •     Type of data collection: face-to-face (F2F) interview. In 2017, the mixed mode was introduced as an experiment.
  •     Sample size: effective size = 1000 in 1981; increased to 1500 in 2008; 1200 in 2017.
  •     Sampling: quota sampling was allowed in the first waves, but since 2008, only probabilistically representative samples have been drawn.
  •     Target population: resident population aged 18 and older.
  •     Translation and monitoring: centrally coordinated since 2008
  •     Data access: data and documentation of all waves are available free of charge.
