Guidelines for university responses to sexual assault and sexual harassment - Respect. Now. Always.
Autor/in:
Universities Australia
Quelle: Universities Australia; , 2017.
Details
Inhalt: At every Australian university, sexual assault and sexual harassment are unacceptable. University leaders, students, staff and communities are united in their resolve to prevent these behaviours. Some of the groups of people most likely to experience sexual harassment or sexual assault in the wider community are the same groups that attend universities in large numbers, particularly women aged between 18 and 34. As a result, Australia’s universities have embarked on a program of work – building on many years of earlier effort and advocacy from students – to take further action across university communities to eliminate this conduct.

Recurring Victimization in the AAU Climate : Survey on Sexual Assault and Sexual Misconduct
Autor/in:
Kaasa, Suzanne; Fisher, Bonnie; Cantor, David; Townsend, Reanne
Quelle: Association of American Universities; Westat; Rockville, 2016. 41 S
Details
Inhalt: Sexual assault and sexual misconduct on university campuses is an important topic that members of the Association of American Universities (AAU) are working to address. In 2015, AAU and Westat worked with a university team of researchers and administrators to design and implement the AAU Climate Survey on Sexual Assault and Sexual Misconduct. Main findings from this study were presented in the Report on the AAU Climate Survey on Sexual Assault and Sexual Misconduct (Cantor, Fisher, Chibnall, Townsend, Lee, Bruce & Thomas, 2015).
The current report presents findings from a series of analyses using a subset of respondents from the survey who experienced recurring victimization during the academic year. Recurring victimization refers to experiencing more than one incident of sexual assault or misconduct within the current year. Prior research has found that a certain subset of victims are at greater risk for both repeated experiences of the same type of incident (e.g., repeated sexual assault) and for experiencing multiple types of incidents (e.g., sexual assault and stalking) (Daigle & Fisher, 2013).

Victims’ Use of Resources, Evaluation of Resources, and Reasons for Not Using Resources
Autor/in:
Fisher, Bonnie; Peterson, Sam; Cantor, David
Quelle: Westat; Rockville, 2016. 235 S
Details
Inhalt: There are a variety of on- and off-campus resources to support and help university students in the aftermath of nonconsensual sexual contact, stalking, sexual harassment or intimate partner violence. These resources range from those concerned with holding the offender accountable (e.g., the Title IX coordinator, campus or local police, student affairs, judicial processes) to those concerned with assisting the victim with the consequences of the incident (e.g., medical services, mental health services, victim advocates). Despite federal legislation requiring the availability of resources to these victims, little is known about how different types of students (e.g., female undergraduates) use particular resources, when they use them, their satisfaction with these resources, and why some do not use resources in the aftermath of the victimization. The current report addresses research questions for seven different kinds of sexual assault and sexual misconduct: nonconsensual sexual contact, forcible penetration, penetration while incapacitated, forcible sexual touching and sexual touching while incapacitated, stalking, sexual harassment and intimate partner violence.

Characteristics of Nonconsensual Sexual Contact Incidents: Penetration and Sexual Touching by Force or While Incapacitated
Autor/in:
Fisher, Bonnie; Peterson, Sam; Cantor, David; Townsend, Reanne; Sun, Hanyu
Quelle: Westat; Rockville, 2016. 174 S
Details
Inhalt: The report uses information gathered from questions in the detailed incident forms to describe the incident characteristics for each of the four types of nonconsensual sexual contact: penetration by force or threat of force, penetration while incapacitated, sexual touching by force or threat of force and sexual touching while incapacitated.
The incident characteristics for each of these four types of nonconsensual sexual contact are presented for the total sample of victims and broken down by three gender identities (female, male, TGQN) and two types student enrollment (undergraduate, and graduate and professional). This report presents findings from the detailed incident forms in the aggregate school dataset (all 27 schools) to three central questions: 1) What are the characteristics of the offenders of nonconsensual sexual contact? 2) What are the situational characteristics prior to these incidents? 3) What are the outcomes of nonconsensual sexual contact?

Power in the academy: staff sexual misconduct in UK higher education
Autor/in:
National Union of Students
Quelle: National Union of Students; London, 2016.
Details
Inhalt: This report is the first step towards understanding this issue of sexual misconduct within academia. It shows that higher education is an environment where casual misconduct, harassment, and sexism are rife, and where sexualised and sexist behaviours are culturally embedded. We need to understand this contextually, as part of both wider culture and the particular nature of higher education. Staff-student sexual misconduct needs to be located as part of a continuum of sexual violence in universities and in society more widely. However, the unique dynamics of the relationship between staff and students in higher education means that there are aspects of sexual misconduct that are specific to this setting. This report sheds light on these behaviours – and on the power relations between staff and students more broadly.

Special Eurobarometer 428: Gender Equality - Report
Autor/in:
European Commission
Quelle: European Commission; European Union, 2015. 229 S
Details
Inhalt: This Eurobarometer Survey seeks to measure Europeans' perceptions of gender inequalities within their own country: how widespread inequalities between women and men are, and whether the situation has improved or worsened compared with ten years ago; whether men or women are more likely to experience such discrimination among particular groups of people (young, old, people with disabilities, migrants, single parents, and working parents with young children); and the areas of life (e.g. work, school, media, politics) where gender stereotypes are deemed to be most prevalent. It also examines Europeans’ general attitudes towards gender equality and, more specifically, the role of women in the workplace and the role of men at home. In terms of tackling gender inequalities, the survey provides measures on Europeans’ opinions on which organisations have contributed most over the last ten years; whether this should be an EU priority; which areas should be dealt with most urgently; and what measures are considered to be the most effective at increasing the number of women in the workplace, and increasing the amount of time men spend on home care activities. Finally, the survey explores the issue of violence against women – what Europeans think this encompasses and which specific forms of such violence the EU should focus its efforts on.

Report on the AAU Campus Climate Survey on Sexual Assault and Sexual Misconduct

Details
Inhalt: This study is one of the first to provide an empirical assessment of questions such as "How extensive is nonconsensual sexual contact?" and "Who is a victim?" across a wide range of IHEs. Prior studies of campus sexual assault and misconduct have been implemented for a small number of IHEs or for a national sample of students with relatively small samples for any particular IHE. To date, comparisons across surveys have been problematic because of different methodologies and different definitions. The AAU study is one of the first to implement a uniform methodology across multiple IHEs and to produce statistically reliable estimates for each IHE. It was designed to provide separate estimates for incidents involving two types of sexual contact (penetration and sexual touching) and four tactics (physical force, drugs and alcohol, coercion, absence of affirmative consent), as well as behaviors such as sexual harassment, stalking, and intimate partner violence. Providing this level of detail allows campus administrators to tailor policies by these very different types of sexual assault and misconduct.
