Inhalt: "This article investigates differences between native Germans and Turkish immigrants in the timing of leaving their parental homes in Germany. By using event history models, it is shown that leaving the parental home is closely linked to the intervening life-event of marriage, particularly among Turkish women. Moreover, there are interaction effects of religious norm orientation with gender which differ between native Germans and Turkish immigrants. In contrast to Turkish immigrants, the linkage of marriage and leaving home became much weaker over birth-cohorts with time in the group of German women. Finally, analyses of sequence patterns also show remarkable differences between native Germans and Turkish immigrants in the process of leaving home. Religious norm orientation turns out to be less important in the Turkish group than in the native German group." (author's abstract)

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Based on data collected in the 'ifb-Berufsrückkehrstudie', I examine what characteristics mothers have that take on part-time work while still receiving parental leave benefits as well as their reasons for doing so. Hypotheses for explaining this behavior refer to the avoidance of negative consequences for mothers' careers and their aspirations for reconciling work and family. An early return to work is significantly more often interconnected with the reappointment to the previous workplace which, in turn, is meaningful for the avoidance of negative consequences for their careers. Moreover, self-employed women significantly more often resume part-time work after child birth during the period of the provision of parental leave benefits. On one hand, in comparison to employed women, self-employed women's employment is less secure and thus requires an early return to work. On the other hand, the former's flexible work schedule and the often reduced work hours allow them to reconcile work and family tasks. The data hint to evidence for the opportunity cost hypothesis, for the importance of professional constraints and also for the family-work reconciliation hypothesis. In sum, the reasons of part-time employment while receiving parental leave benefits are multifaceted." (author's abstract)

Method: an integrative review of bibliometric approach, held through consultation online, advanced and systematic, in the Virtual Health Library, using the technique of meta-searching. Results: the authors were linked to 20 institutions, 53,2% were doctors, 61,7% were doctorates. The country with the highest number of authors was Brazil. The issue most discussed was sexual function. Most publications were quantitative, occurred in 2008 and published in Brazilian Portuguese language. The level four of evidence was the most frequent. The Law enforcement of Bradford resulted in three areas of productivity. Conclusion: there is a need for more qualitative researches, especially in nursing, and studies with greater power of evidence, as well as more investment in other regions of Brazil.

Fathering and Gender: Transformation in Zimbabwean Transnational Families

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: Migration research in Southern Africa has paid little attention to migrant men's involvement in the family, including their emotional and cognitive work, as well as associated gender transformations. Based on a qualitative study of six Zimbabwean migrant fathers in Johannesburg and three non-migrant women in Zimbabwe, this article argues that transnational migration at once presents opportunities for and obstacles to the reconstitution of gender-normative forms of parental involvement in migrant families. The analysis of the narratives of migrant men and their spouses demonstrates that, although maternal and paternal roles may become considerably indistinct in the context of transnational separations, non-migrant women may emphasize gender-normative expectations in their negotiations with distant fathers when faced with huge responsibilities at home. Such negotiations tend to reinforce gender-normative parenting in transnational split families. (author's abstract)

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Although pluralization of life forms and effects of precarious work have recently been matters of debate among scholars in the social sciences, only little is known about the impact of both processes on fertility intentions. Focusing individual attitudes of young German adults towards these issues, this paper investigates whether pluralization of life forms or effects of precarious work lead to lower rates of fertility intentions. Based on social exchange theory, empirical results show a significantly negative impact of modern gender role attitudes on fertility intentions. When conducting separate analyses for each gender group, this effect vanishes. Controlling for males, subjective precariousness exerts a negative effect, whereas a high amount of fixed-term contracts during professional career exerts a positive effect on fertility intentions. However, females' fertility intentions are positively affected in a significant manner by a high degree of satisfaction with partnership." (author's abstract)

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: This article reflects on the epistemological, methodological, and ethical issues related to undertaking a cross-gender research (male researcher with female participants) in one's own community. It also examines issues of analysis and representation germane to taking a gendered perspective in this study of the lives and experiences of left-behind women. The article frames the discussion of these issues within four interrelated sites or levels of reflexivity: theoretical reflexivity, gender and fieldwork relations, positionality and the insider/outsider dynamic, and representation. The conclusion reflects on the ethical obligation a researcher conducting a study in one's own community bears and the consequences of this ethical burden on representation. (author's abstract)

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Focusing family influences on children's academic development, the present study investigated longitudinal effects of parental school involvement as well as children’s closeness to parents as predictors of school achievement across two years. Two aspects of academic socialization were of particular interest: parents' aspirations for higher education and their interest in children's schooling. Data for 469 children (age 8 to 16 years) came from the German Family Panel pairfam. Multiple regression analyses controlling for a variety of background factors, children's previous grades, and their problem behavior revealed significant effects of parents' educational aspirations only. Whereas children's age did not moderate the effects of closeness to parents or those of academic socialization, higher closeness to parents proved to facilitate effects of parents' educational aspirations. The findings emphasize the role of parental aspirations, particularly in the context of a positive parent-child relationship." (author's abstract)
