"Ausgangspunkt des Artikels ist die Beobachtung, dass Organisationen wesentlich an der Produktion und Reproduktion sozialer Ungleichheit beteiligt sind. Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der Herstellung und Fortschreibung sozialer Ungleichheit in Organisationen anhand einer maßgeblichen Ungleichheitsdimension, dem Geschlecht. Nach einem Überblick über struktur- und handlungsorientierte theoretische Konzepte und über empirische Studien, die Organisation, Geschlecht und Ungleichheit thematisieren, werden Ergebnisse aus eigenen empirischen Forschungsarbeiten skizziert. Es wird am Beispiel von Arbeitsmarktdaten und anhand zweier Wissenschaftsorganisationen gezeigt, wie die geschlechtsspezifisch ungleiche Allokation von Männern und Frauen auf statushohe Positionen durch das komplexe Zusammenspiel von mikrosozialen und strukturellen Faktoren im Kontext von Organisationen hergestellt, vermittelt und festgeschrieben wird. Der Beitrag schließt mit einem Plädoyer für eine stärkere Verbindung von Ungleichheits- und Organisationsforschung, die 'organisierte Ungleichheit' in ihrem Zusammenspiel von individuellen und organisationsstrukturellen Faktoren sowie im Zeitverlauf in den Blick nehmen sollte." "In past research, organizations were identified as important bases of social stratification. In this contribution the focus is on how sex and gender inequalities in organizations (re)produce organizationally. The authors discuss existing theoretical approaches and empirical findings and report results from their analysis of labor market data and of two large German research organizations. Findings reveal how the different allocation of men and women to high-status positions comes about, and how it is mediated and prolonged through an embeddedness of individuals and structures in organizational contexts. This interplay of complex structural and microsocial forces is subject to considerable variation between and within organizations and over time." (author's abstract)
