Inhalt: "Ritualized hostile behavior towards male homosexuality is prevalent among male youth. Boys are often ignorant about male homosexuality, exclude homosexuals, and/or are violent towards them. This article, which is based on the interpretation of empirical material collected through focus group discussions, proves how gay men can be treated with an open-minded acceptance instead of exclusion and stigmatization. The article shows that the boys' group formations, i.e. peer groups and cliques, have an impact on how male homosexuals are treated. Our study demonstrates the ambivalences of insecurity and constant scrutiny of one's own male role and identity which need to be generated in this process of recognition." (author's abstract)

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "The article resumes qualitative and quantiative results of research on the situation of young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and queer people. After their coming-out many of them experience exclusion, discrimination and violence. This leads to negative effects on their mental and physical health. At the end a participatory orientation in research is proposed and its benefits are discussed." (author's abstract)

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Despite the increasing visibility of non-heterosexual orientations and/or non-cisgender identity, they are still not a matter of course in our society. Social scientific research into the lives of LGBTQ*-people has shown that they are often subject to discrimination on account of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The majority of studies to date have tended to focus on stress and risks connected with discrimination. However, a recent study conducted by the German Youth Institute and entitled Coming out - what next…?! also investigated the strategies and resources which young LGBTQ*-people mobilize when facing challenges. More than 5.000 lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans* and queer adolescents provided information about their individual experiences in an online survey. Furthermore, 40 problem-centered interviews were conducted with LGBTQ*-adolescents across Germany, in which the young people were able to describe their experiences and the way the dealt with them in greater detail. This article provides an overview of the central findings of the study Coming-out - what next...?! From salutogenetic perspective." (author's abstract)

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "This article discusses prejudices, stereotypes and discrimination from different perspectives: the theoretical introduction from a sociological perspective frames the socialisational practices of actors within the binary order of gender and desire and highlights selected feminist and queer criticisms. Subsequently, a psychological perspective is applied that proposes the heuristic value of the concept of ambiguity tolerance when analyzing the individual handling of ambiguous situations. Finally, the article employs an empirical perspective that reflects the situation of lgbt* adolescents and young adults. By drawing on data from focus group discussions three common assumptions of unambiguousness were identified. In a concluding outlook the article argues for an interdisciplinary approach of all angles to improve the integration of diversity in the future." (author's abstract)
Zwischen Ausblendung und Sozialpädagogisierung? Dilemmata bei der Konstruktion von LSBT*-Jugendlichen als Zielgruppe Sozialer Arbeit
Titelübersetzung:Between ignorance and pedagogisation? Dilemmas in constructing LGBT youth as a target group for social work
Autor/in:
Schirmer, Uta
Quelle: Diskurs Kindheits- und Jugendforschung / Discourse. Journal of Childhood and Adolescence Research, 12 (2017) 2, S 177-189
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Recent studies show that non-heterosexual and non-cisgender youth in Germany experience disdain, degradation and discrimination in almost every area of their daily lives, and therefore face particular challenges. Nevertheless, their situation and needs remain hitherto largely ignored in the field of youth services. Initial attempts within professional discourse and practice to explicitly address LGBT youth, however, face specific dilemmas that are part and parcel of the construction of target groups for social work. The article discusses such dilemmas and ambivalences against the backdrop of current social developments such as the ostensible acceptance of 'sexual and gender diversity' as well as the racist implications of the discourses associated with these developments. The considerations presented aim to encourage critical reflection and further development of current approaches that allow for critical engagement with heteronormativity in the field of youth services." Inhalt: "Focusing on the current renaissance of authoritarian discourses and practices we analyze the effects of gendered power relations in society. We base our analysis on a critique of current research on right wing populism and autocracy research, which focuses primarily on state dominated institutions, official government apparatuses and political decision-making processes. In contrary, we take up a bottom-up perspective and advocate a concept of feminist analysis that is rooted in a broader concept of civil society, analyzing gender relations as societal power structures from a non-essentialist governmentality and post-structuralist perspective. The core is an understanding of authoritarian as a program of action that takes up universalist values of equality and justice and reinterprets them as instruments for discrimination and exploitation in linking different discourses and practices. Based on two case studies we show how liberal positions and arguments for the discrimination and inequality of women are used in the context of the politicization of cultural and ethnic conflict lines. Using example of the provisional program of the alternative for Germany (AfD) we analyze the construction of authoritarian gender discourses in connection with a value-conservative family. The example of the transitional society of Chile shows how the normalization of authoritarian discourse takes place and how civil society women’s organizations are instrumentalized for democratic opening and closing processes." Inhalt: Women are traditionally considered to be confined within the four walls of their houses in the developing countries. They are still unable to play an active role in the development of society. They are striving to make their identity as an integral part of the society. Being a member of conservative developing society, women are still facing many hindrances, causing stressful situation for them, which prohibits them to participate actively in the economic development. This paper attempts to explore the critical factors creating stress among Pakistani working women. Based on literature review, the key stressors were identified to be as work life balance, gender discrimination, peers’ behaviour, lack of promotional opportunities and sexual harassment. These factors were found to be creating physiological, behavioural and psychological problems. The target of this study was the women working in secretarial and administrative positions in Pakistani organisations. Regression analysis was conducted to find out the impact of these stressors on working women. The results revealed that sexual harassment, peers’ behaviour and lack of promotional opportunities were the most dominant stressors.
