Inhalt: "The paper deals with the 'death of academic women' (Hassauer 1994) which is particularly at work in the postdoctoral phase of scientific careers. The author analyses the supervision and promotion of the next generation of academics, focusing on the career planning in the transition from the doctoral to the postdoctoral phase. Based on current comparative research results with a focus on gender and disciplines, the author argues that the "death of academic women" is constitutive for the existing academic career systems and that it is still alive within the gendered subtext of scientific organisations. The dropping-out of women from the academic career is still produced and reproduced in social practices of science, for example supervision and promotion. However, the dropping-out also could be changed within these social practices." (author's abstract)
