Solidarity in Head-Scarf and Pussy Bow Blouse: Reflections on Feminist Activism and Knowledge Production
Autor/in:
Gemzöe, Lena
Quelle: Social Inclusion, 6 (2018) 4, S 67-81
Inhalt: The author of this article discusses the ways in which gender equality and intersectionality are understood and enacted in two recent feminist campaigns in Sweden that use similar techniques to mobilise support for different causes. The first campaign is the so-called Hijab Call-to-Action, a solidarity action that took place in 2013 in which women in Sweden wore a hijab (the Muslim headscarf) for one day in defence of Muslim women’s rights. This campaign manifests the ways in which the notion of gender equality brings with it a norm of secularity, but also how the equation of equality and secularity is contested. The second feminist campaign discussed is the so-called Pussy Bow Blouse manifestation that aimed at taking a stand in the controversies surrounding the Swedish Academy as a result of the Metoo campaign in Sweden. The author looks at the political and discursive processes enfolded in these campaigns as a sort of collective learning processes that connect feminist activism and scholarship. A key concern is to critically analyse a binary model of powerless versus gender-equal or feminist women that figure in both debates. Further, the author shows that both campaigns appeal to solidarity through identification, but at the same time underscore the contingent and coalitional nature of identity in the act of dressing in a scarf or a blouse to take on a (political) identity for a day.
Women's Participation in Peace Negotiations and the Durability of Peace

Inhalt: There is an emerging consensus that women’s participation in peace negotiations contributes to the quality and durability of peace after civil war. However, to date, this proposition has remained empirically untested. Moreover, how women’s participation may contribute to durable peace has not been systematically explored. This article uses a mixed method design to examine this proposition. Our statistical analysis demonstrates a robust correlation between peace agreements signed by female delegates and durable peace. We further find that agreements signed by women show a significantly higher number of peace agreement provisions aimed at political reform, and higher implementation rates for provisions. We argue that linkages between women signatories and women civil society groups explain the observed positive impact of women’s direct participation in peace negotiations. Collaboration and knowledge building among diverse women groups contributes to better content of peace agreements and higher implementation rates of agreement provisions. We substantiate this
argument with qualitative case study evidence and demonstrate how collaboration between female delegates and women civil society groups positively impacts peace processes. Our findings support the assumption that women’s participation in peace negotiations increases the durability and the quality of peace.

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "This comparative study focuses on the historical Russian and British Women's Movement from the beginning of the 20th century to World War I. The movements’ key issues included access to education and work, civic and political rights. The respective national contexts differed considerably in regards to political, social and cultural conditions, which led to specific forms in the field of social movements. Still, a closer look shows similarities concerning claims, forms of protest, and mobilisation. Based on a 'most-different-case selection', this study systematically examines commonalities and differences, in order to provide a wider perspective on processes of power generation and empowerment." Autor/in:
Maurer, Susanne

The article aims to reflect the gender roles of men and women in this revolution. Interviews, blog notes and scientific articles are utilised to show the tasks and responsibilities of men and women at the Maidan.
Weiblich, feministisch, Intellektuelle: Paradoxie oder Tabu?
Titelübersetzung:Female, feminist, intellectual: paradox or taboo?
Autor/in:
Dackweiler, Regina-Maria
Inhalt: This article examines why female and feminist intellectuals are still not included in the historiography and sociology of intellectuals. The assumption is that there is an area of tensions related to this social role based on the dimensions of recognition, definition, authorization and belonging. In view of the origins of the second women's movement and taking recourse to explanatory approaches to feminist theorists and to Bourdieu's and Gramsci's social theories of intellectuals, it is possible to elaborate the paradox of the female and the taboo of the feminist intellectual. Based on a draft of the early political ideas of the second women's movement, the article calls for a new genealogy of intellectuals in Germany.
