Perceptions from the delivering women's chosen companion concerning the obstetrics ward organization and ambience

Inhalt: Objective: Descriptive research, with a qualitative approach, aiming to know the companion's perceptions about the organization and ambience of the obstetrical center, and to identify which aspects facilitate and make difficult their stay. Method: Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with 16 companions chosen by delivering women from November 2010 to May 2011, in a public maternity in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Results: Using Collective Subject Discourse in analyzing the data, the following four themes emerged: orientation about norms and routines supplied to the companion before entering the obstetrics ward; obstetrics ward ambience; aspects which facilitate staying; and difficulties surrounding staying in the obstetrics ward. Conclusion: although some difficulties were faced, especially resulting from the lack of orientation and inappropriate accommodation of the companion, they were not obstacles to their permanence by the delivering woman's side.

The obstetrical and newborn profile of postpartum women in maternities in São Paulo

Inhalt: Objective: To describe the sociodemographic and obstetric profile of postpartum women in São Paulo, to check the perinatal data and to identify the type of delivery. Method: A descriptive, cross-sectional study involving 424 postpartum women. Data was collected through structured interviews and medical records. We used descriptive statistics for analysis. Results: There was a predominance of women between 21 and 30 years (60,6%), mulatto (55,2%), high school education (65,8%), without payment (57,3%), with a partner ( 85,4%), primiparous (34,9%) and without previous abortion (78.8%). The vaginal delivery was performed in 58,3% of women. Most newborns were male (52,2%), with appropriate weight and height (89,5% and 80,7%), and na Apgar score between eight and ten in the first minutes of life (> 90,0%). Conclusion: There was a predominance of women with little education and unfavorable financial conditions, factors that hinder access to health services, contributing to increased maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality.

Inhalt: Objective: Recognizing the concerns of primiparous women about labor and birth, the nurse identify
actions to mitigating the feelings of women. Method: this was a descriptive, exploratory research,
qualitative in nature, with six primiparous women rooming at the University Hospital Antonio Pedro
through semistructured interviews and analyzed with the principles of thematic analysis, after approval by
the Ethics Committee of the University Hospital Antonio Pedro, under nº 218 283. Results: in the data
analysis, the results showed their feelings and expectations regarding their relationship with labor and
birth, such as fear, insecurity and anxiety. However, the presence of a companion proved to be important
for inhibition of these feelings. Conclusion: the health professional should facilitate and promote care to
the mother, with a resulting assistance of a trust and bond.

Socio-cultural profile of women who have experienced sexual violence in a hospital unit of reference

Inhalt: Objective: Characterizing and analyzing the socio-cultural profile of the women who have experienced sexual violence that were answered in a unit of reference linked to the Municipal Health and Civil Defense of Rio de Janeiro. Method: a descriptive, exploratory in the quantitative approach. Data were collected between November 2011 and March 2012 totaling in 157 records. Results: most women raped are young, white, unmarried, middle level education and has some form of financial income. Conclusion: the data corroborates the fact that sexual violence focus at all levels of education and in all social classes. Meeting the reality of these women is fundamental to a comprehensive and humanized assistance. The proposed deal must be formulated both from the socio-cultural characteristics of women, as a joint construction between professionals and clients.

The occurrence of pre-eclampsia in women pregnant for the first time attending prenatal care consultation at a university hospital

Inhalt: Objective: To investigate the characteristics of pregnant for the first time attended at prenatal; identify the incidence of preeclampsia in pregnant for the first time attended consultations in prenatal care. Method: A descriptive, quantitative, retrospective, held at a University Hospital in Rio de Janeiro. The charts of women pregnant for the first time attended from 2008 to 2009 were analyzed with descriptive statistics support. Results: There were 264 (56,3%) admissions of pregnants for the first time. Were part of the sample set 105 records. In this group, 43 (40,9%) women showed in the edema, 2 (1,9%) had proteinuria, 29 (27,6%) had no abnormalities of blood pressure measurements. Conclusion: In the analyzed sample there was no record of preeclampsia, however 41 (38,9%) women showed changes compatible with BP Disease Specific Hypertension in Pregnancy (HDP). Nurses have an important role in the multidisciplinary team, for early detection of complications during pregnancy contributes to reducing the incidence of maternal mortality and morbidity.
