Gleichstellungspolitischer Wandel durch Engagement und Handeln der Frauenorganisationen: Kroatien auf dem Weg zur Gleichstellung
Titelübersetzung:The role of women's organizations in gender politics: Croatia on the road to gender equality
Autor/in:
Rosul-Gajic, Jagoda
Inhalt: "The article deals with the question of how the Croatian women's organizations have contributed to gender policy in Croatia and what instruments they have used at the state level in the process of drafting, initiation and adoption of innovative gender policy. The article argues that in their role as norm advocates the Croatian women's NGOs have been working with a double strategy to call attention to non-compliance with international norms on women's rights and to enforce change. Unlike most of the literature on global norm diffusion, this article argues that, in order to act gender sensible, not only the national actors need to be socialized, but also the international political elite."
Titelübersetzung:Autonomous cars and hegemonic masculinity
Autor/in:
Berscheid, Anna-Lena
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Analyzing the German media discourse on autonomous cars, the author shows how the invention of autonomous cars might undermine the car as a symbol of hegemonic masculinity. An autonomous car would eliminate crucial characteristics usually used to perform masculinity, such as speeding, risk-taking, flexibility or expressing individual power. The analysis illustrates contradictory discourses on autonomous cars: On the one hand, it is argued that this new form of (auto)mobility improves street security by transferring responsibility to the computer and turning the human driver into a passenger. This discourse fosters the idea of a "neutral" and therefore safer driving-style. On the other hand, discourse actors claim that they cannot fully trust technology and therefore, they aim to maintain those factors of driving (a car) which are considered as "fun". Ironically, the concept of "fun" implies stereotyped "masculinity" and therefore often includes dangerous driving characteristics that are meant to get "neutralized" by the autonomous car. These contradictions show that the automobile industry hesitates to give up the car as a means to express masculinity. That might be the reason why the car industry focuses on so called driving assistance systems which are supposed to support the driver, but leave him/her in control of the car as such." Was bleibt?
Titelübersetzung:Chances and limits of a queer-feminist online-archive
Autor/in:
Koch, Ulrike; Zschokke, Anna
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Every day new blog posts, tweets, images, and videos appear, which take on social issues, discuss them from a (queer-)feminist viewpoint and initiate debates within (queer-)feminism. The resulting digital knowledge makes the lively discussions within the (queer-)feminist scene visible and cannot be separated from that scene anymore. However, most (queer-)feminist digital content is currently not recorded for posterity and thus at risk of disappearance and oblivion. Therefore the question of a (queer-)feminist meta-archive is posed by the authors, more precisely an archive which records digital content and makes it accessible to persons interested. This article presents a semi-utopian concept of how to organize and establish a meta-archive that could serve varying needs." (author's abstract)
Idle no more: indigene Aktivistinnen und Feminismen
Titelübersetzung:Idle no more: indigenous activism and feminisms
Autor/in:
John, Sonja
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "The grassroots movement "Idle No More", founded and carried by indigenous women, does neither identify itself as a women's nor as an indigenous organization. Based on grassroots democracy and intersectional alliances, it succeeded in generating broad support for its main concerns - protection of the environment and of treaty relationships - and to address the structural problems of colonial und sexist practices. The author argues that the success of the organization lies in the context analysis that explains without accusing. This allows for broad and solidary alliances." (author's abstract)
Titelübersetzung:Regulation of online-harassment: perspectives of feminist web politics on violent communication on the Internet
Autor/in:
Hentschel, Gitti; Schmidt, Francesca
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Communication is a key element of the internet. Violent communication has relevant effects on queer feminist internet activism. This article focuses on options and necessities of regulating such forms of violent anti-feminist and racist communication. How to prevent or to stop violent online-communication? Which resources of regulation in democratic states or internationally are already available? To what extent can the feminist achievements of the 1970/80s be revived?" (author's abstract)

Titelübersetzung:Feminisms in translocal women's networks
Autor/in:
Kannengiesser, Sigrid
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Translocal networks of women's organisations have to deal with the national and cultural differences of their members. Especially differences between feminist norms, which vary among socio-cultural contexts, are challenging. Which similarities and differences can be found in translocal networks of women's organisations regarding feminist norms? How do the actors involved deal with these differences? And how are feminist goals pursued in regions, where feminism is rejected? These questions have been studied in a qualitative study, in which the Association for Progressive Communications Women's Networking Support Programme was analysed, a network of more than 175 women and women's organisations, which share the aim of gender equity and are located in 35 (mainly low income) countries." Öffentlichkeiten im Internet: zwischen Feminismus und Antifeminismus
Titelübersetzung:Publics and the web: between feminism and antifeminism
Autor/in:
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "The concept of a public sphere ("Öffentlichkeit") has been of central concern to Gender Studies. Alongside the feminist critique of dominance changes of media and communication technologies have led to a reconsideration of the concept. Taking the Three-Layer-Model of the public sphere as the starting-point Ricarda Drüeke and Elisabeth Klaus examine how publics are constituted in the Internet, discuss the consequences for their formation and ponder their meaning for the processes of social debate and cultural understanding. The authors explore the prominent German antisexist twitter-debate #aufschrei as an example for alternative forms of political debates on the Internet and their potential for the formation of feminist counter-publics. However, #aufschrei was denounced on masculinist and antifeminist sites, thereby demonstrating the limits, problems, and risks of these new forums of communication. The empirically grounded analysis shows that antisexist and feminist positions remain contested in the process of public debate and cultural understanding, so that Internet publics are ambivalent as regards their potential to foster social change."
