Inhalt: "Motherhood and reproduction have been at the core of the feminist discourse about women's rights ever since its onset. For the first and second feminist movements, the right to abortion and the public recognition of motherhood have been main issues in the discourse on reproduction. Since the last two decades of the 20th century, the potentials of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) have opened up new venues of feminist discourse. In this paper the authors sketch the main feminist lines of argumentation regarding motherhood and reproduction since the 1970s, and they identify specific shifts in their recurrent issues. They argue that an essential contribution of feminism to the understanding of motherhood as a structuring category has been its insistence on the distinction between biological and social motherhood. Feminist discourse shows how ART has further decomposed biological motherhood and has altered the meaning of motherhood and reproduction. Feminist analysis maintains that despite the rhetoric of choice surrounding ART, these technologies have not increased women's reproductive freedom. The decomposition of biological motherhood, the medical, legal, and commercial development of reproduction, and the change in the social perception of motherhood have rather established new forms of control over female reproduction."
Titelübersetzung:Sustainable feministic appeals: the obstruction of sustainable developments through classical patterns of rationality
Autor/in:
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Transformation processes towards sustainable development have been until now blocked by old structures and institutions. This paper analyses such blockades in the field of theories and concepts that try to reach sustainability with the help of old rationales - with old concepts of justice (John Rawls), productivity (Adam Smith) and property (John Lokke). Rawls' theory of justice cannot aid sustainability because it is not capable of defining justice with regard to future generations. Adam Smith's concept of productivity cannot lead to sustainability because it externalizes the basic productivities for a sustainable economy - the productivities of female care work and of nature. Finally, Locke's concept of property: In his theory property is only created turning nature (resources) into commodities. This concept of property is combined with power over resources and power to exclude others from using them. All of this clarifies that: The history of sustainable development needs totally different stories in order to be told." (author's abstract)

Migration, Geschlecht, Gewalt: Überlegungen zu einem intersektionellen Gewaltbegriff
Titelübersetzung:Migration, gender, violence: towards an intersectional concept of violence
Autor/in:
Sauer, Birgit
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Political measures against as well as scientific debates about so-called 'traditional harmful practices' against women in western immigration countries put the necessity of an intersectional concept of violence on the feminist scientific agenda, Such a concept should aim to escape the trap of culturalizing the 'Other'. It should also build the ground to guarantee sustainable harm reduction without stigmatizing minority groups nor victimizing women affected by violence. In the context of a broad feminist notion of violence the article suggests the re-theorization of the concept of violence against women. This conceptualization should include first the interplay of structures and discourses of violence, second the interaction of structures of inequality between minority groups and dominant society, and third the intersection of structures of inequality and violence between gender, culture, ethnicity, religion, and class."
Titelübersetzung:Women's politics in Turkey in the field of tension between the local and the transnational
Autor/in:
Al-Rebholz, Anil
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Transnationalization and NGOization constitute two determining aspects of women's politics and feminist knowledge production in Turkey. Drawing on the transnational advocacy networks approach and insights offered by analysis of feminist transnational practices, the article relates these two processes to the transformation of second wave feminism in the 90s, and discusses the contradictory and ambivalent consequences of these for feminist politics today. In this framework, it is focused on the transnational networking and exchange of women's movements in Turkey in general, and knowledge exchange and reception of feminist ideas by Kurdish activists in particular. Furthermore, the article deals with the fragmentation of the landscape of women's activism along different women's NGOs (Kurdish, Turkish, Islamic) in the Turkish context, and links these to the wider context of raising the importance of transnational politics and governance of gender relations worldwide. This raises in turn the critical question, which is crucial for both Turkish case but also in general, whether the transnational politics promotes the emancipative potential of women's politics, therefore leading to more democratization of gender relations."
Titelübersetzung:Considering human-natural relationships from a material(ist) perspective: feminist economics, queer ecologies and the concept of resource politics
Autor/in:
Bauhardt, Christine
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "After the cultural turn human-natural relationships need to be reconsidered. The feminist critique of political economy and the critical approach of queer ecologies allow new perspectives on the binary and hierarchical construction of nature and culture. Haraway's 'naturecultures' concept describes the concomitance of nature and culture. Analysing the materiality of economic and human-natural relationships introduces fresh perspectives into the ecological discourse, which might inspire a feminist approach to environmental policy. The concept of resource politics provides the tools for environmental policy to consider global ecological developments while at the same time focusing radically on local environmental and living conditions."
Titelübersetzung:Intersectional perspective on care in France: a methodological consideration on migrant's care work in feminist welfare state research
Autor/in:
Beckmann, Sabine
Quelle: GENDER - Zeitschrift für Geschlecht, Kultur und Gesellschaft, 3 (2011) 3, S 24-38
Inhalt: "Despite comprehensive care facilities in France, families rely on migrant care work to reconcile work and family life. This paper highlights this phenomenon and pursues two objectives: From an intersectional perspective I discuss how migrant care work is specifically connected to the categories of gender, class, and racelmigration and how it is embedded in the frameworks of the welfare state. Intersectional analysis reveals the construction of power relations and the establishment of hierarchical differences through the actions of the welfare state. Drawing on a normative analysis of care makes it possible to evaluate the care regime in France. For this purpose, principles have been evolved from the inclusive citizenship, sociability, and capabilities approach." (author's abstract)
