Inhalt: "This study aims to describe the professional and labor situation of former graduate students from the Faculty of Education at the University of Extremadura, analyzing the education received, paying special attention to the study of gender differences. As the authors can show, there are gender differences between male and female graduates of the Faculty of Education in their transition to the labor market. They used a triangulation based methodology (using both qualitative and quantitative data). These data were obtained by means of a questionnaire and open questions based on it answered by graduate students, as well as discussion groups with graduates, employers and other people involved in these issues." Gender equality and fertility intentions revisited evidence from Finland
Titelübersetzung:Gleichstellung der Geschlechter und Fruchtbarkeitsabsichten, korrigierte Ergebnisse aus Finnland
Autor/in:
Miettinen, Anneli; Basten, Stuart; Rotkirch, Anna
Quelle: Demographic Research, Vol. 24 (2011) , S. 469-496
Inhalt: "Stimulated by the recent debate on gender roles and men's fertility behavior (Puur et al. 2008; Westoff and Higgins 2009; Goldscheider, Oláh and Puur 2010), the authors present evidence from Finland as a country well into the second phase of the so-called gender revolution. They examine how gender role attitudes relate to childbearing intentions at the onset of family life, intentions to have many (3 or more) children, and high personal fertility ideals among low-parity men and women. Gender equality attitudes are measured for both the public and the domestic sphere and the influence of work and family orientation is controlled for. Finding signs of a U-shaped association among men, the authors conclude that both traditional and egalitarian attitudes raise men's expected fertility compared to men with intermediate gender attitudes and independently of family values. Among Finnish women the impact of gender attitudes is smaller and more ambiguous." (author's abstract)
Equal opportunities between men and women and gender mainstreaming under the European Employment Strategy (EES) and the Open Method of Coordination (OMC) : a new policy approach to combat gender discrimination?
Titelübersetzung:Chancengleichheit zwischen Mann und Frau und Gender Mainstreaming in der europäischen Beschäftigungsstrategie (EBS) und der "Offenen Methode der Koordinierung (OMK)"

Quelle: European Integration online Papers, Vol. 11 (2007) , 25 S.
Inhalt: "The aim of this article is to analyse the development of the concepts of equal opportunities between men and women and gender mainstreaming with regard to a new policy approach taken outside the traditional community method and to raise the question to what extent these policy instruments can be considered as a 'new tool' to combat gender discrimination. The European Employment Strategy (EES) and the Open Method of Coordination (OMC) are two examples of an instrument outside the community method, which tries to increase the recognition of the gender dimension of the labour market and to improve the initiatives taken in the interrelated field of social inclusion of women by the use of 'soft' policy instruments and voluntarist procedures. The paper illustrates the development of the concept of equal opportunities between men and women and gender mainstreaming under the EES and the OMC; more precisely, the paper seeks to demonstrate that the concepts of equal opportunities between men and women and gender mainstreaming cannot be addressed by reference to harmonisation instruments exclusively, but need, due to the diverse approach towards gender equality on a national level, a decentralised approach as it is offered by the coordination instrument, which should be understood as a complementary tool of integration." Die Metamorphosen der Gleichheit in der Europäischen Union : Genese und Institutionalisierung supranationaler Gleichberechtigungsnormen
Titelübersetzung:The European Union as authority structure of gender politics : the road from economic interests to supranational gender equality norms
Autor/in:
Wobbe, Theresa; Biermann, Ingrid
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "During the last 50 years, the European Union's meaning of gender equality constantly is in flux. This paper aims at examining the metamorphosis in two steps. (1) While relating the equal pay norm (1957) to the common market idea, its codification is reconstructed through the impact of global norms. (2) Changing to the European level, we reconstruct its interpetration and the way it was enforced. The metamorphosis of gender equality norms makes clear that the latter are deeply embedded in the institutional structure of the emerging supranational system: While gender equality is legitimized by the idea of the common market, its enforcement follows European authority. After 1945, a new reference structure of gender equality norms was established accordingly, transcending national levels. In their approach, both world society theory and sociology of gender should address this still emerging structure." (author's abstract)
Bericht der Europäischen Kommission zur Gleichstellung von Frauen und Männern, 2006

Peyer, Teresia
Quelle: MenschenRechtsMagazin : Informationen, Meinungen, Analysen, Jg. 11 (2006) H. 3, S. 301-308
