Inhalt: "It is easier to answer the question 'Who is leading?' than 'How do people learn to lead?' Common questions when planning a career are concerned with how to reach top positions and which skills are needed to do so. Young people working in the economic field are being prepared for their leadership tasks, but what kind of preparation is there in the field of further education? To answer this question, interviews with female heads of educational institutions were analyzed. A striking result is that most of them did not plan their career, let alone were prepared for it. Still, they brought skills to their position. Their commitment to making a difference is noticeable. In particular, the ability to learn expansively is one of their characteristics. The article is concerned with aspects of this topic, analyzing on the basis of short biographical portraits, which structures and processes in the field of further education were significant for the careers of women in the past two decades. The portraits are presented within their innate logic as well as the logic of institutions." (author's abstract)
