Wer gewinnt, wer verliert? Inhalt: "In recent decades, the rapid increase in migration and globalization has resulted not only in a transformation of politics and the economy, but has also deeply affected family life. One of the results is a rapidly growing variety of transnational families, such as long-distance relationships, transnational couples, immigrant families, transnational adoption etc. Yet in German sociology, this new reality of contemporary family demography has received little attention so far. To make a start, and to initiate a broader perspective, I present three constellations of transnational family life: marriage migration, transnational motherhood, transnational childhood. These are, so I suggest, not some exotic examples, of marginal relevance at best. Quite to the contrary, it is high time that we start to explore the neglected territory, because the emerging trends are of major importance, in two ways at least. First, because they represent a growing sector of family life. And second, because they represent a challenge to family research: By analyzing the connections, flows, interrelationships in a globalized world, and by thus moving beyond the borders of the nation-state, we may come to realize that some of the basic assumptions of family sociology have an implicit bias."
