(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Since the US invasion in 2003, Iraq has faced multiple outbreaks of violent conflicts. In that context, feminist authors have stressed the extremely difficult situation of women in an Iraqi society that is undergoing transformation. Despite the difficulties that women are facing, they are actively engaging in change and the transformation of gender relations through NGO activism. As women feel that their situation is closely connected to issues that affect Iraqi society as a whole, strategies for changing gender relations are therefore embedded within broader concepts of social change. An empirical analysis of my own field research conducted in Iraq reveals that ideas about change are strongly influenced by the social positionality of women (in particular gender, nationality and class). Therefore, an intersectional approach (based on Floya Anthias) is incorporated into the qualitative analysis." (author's abstract)

Titelübersetzung:Transnational spaces and the negotiation of development and gender relations locally through the constitution of new spaces
Autor/in:
Dannecker, Petra
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "In this article it will be shown how women's organizations in Sudan, Malaysia and Senegal constitute new social spaces through the negotiations of global development concepts and visions locally. It will be shown that transnational networks, new forms of communication and interaction as well as the connection of different fields of knowledge are modes developed for the constitution of spaces for negotiating gender relations, Islam, development and social change locally. Transnational spaces do play, as the analysis of the empirical material reveals, an important role as a knowledge base and for developing new strategies." (author's abstract)

Titelübersetzung:Gender justice as a theological knowledge figure: the differentiation of feminist theologies in the religious knowledge system
Autor/in:
Winkel, Heidemarie
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "The social differentiation of feminist theology will be examined from a sociological point of view, namely from the sociology of religion and the sociology of knowledge. Thereby feminist theology will be introduced as distinct knowledge figure within the theologically based religious reservoir of knowledge. According to this conceptual classification, feminist theology aims at the reconstruction of religion's symbolic horizon of meaning at large, including all its forms of knowledge, namely: the practice of belief (orthopraxy), and the theological doctrines (orthodoxy) and their scientific reflection within theology. The article is discussed in terms of Protestantism, against the background of which feminist theology has historically developed as a distinguished horizon of reflection, and in terms of how far it has gained significance with regard to the institutionalized kernel of Christian theology." Problematisierte Patrilinearität bei den ParsInnen in Mumbai
Titelübersetzung:Challenged patrilineality of Parsis in Mumbai
Autor/in:
Walthert, Rafael
Inhalt: "The autonomy of religious communities in India concerning the realm of personal law allows the direct influence of religion on the configuration of gender relations. This is also the case for the community of Parsi Zoroastrians, an economic elite within Mumbai, whose patrilineal concept of community is legitimated with reference to religious tradition. Liberal Parsis criticize patrilineality and call for gender equity. This article offers a reconstruction of the discursive process and the main arguments therein, which allows a characterization of the communal configurations between gender and religion, and their relation to tradition and change."
Titelübersetzung:The influence of post-socialist transformation processes on gender roles in Serbia
Autor/in:
Friedrich, Stefanie
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "In the following article the influence of social and political developments on the negotiation of gender roles will be outlined using the example of Serbia. The analysis will focus on the years 1980 to 2009. Even though in socialist Yugoslavia gender equality had been legally confirmed its de facto implementation remained problematic. This will be demonstrated using, for instance, the example of the division of paid and unpaid work. When Yugoslavia was falling apart and a violent war of secession was being carried out in the region the gender-specific public-private division in Serbia was even more enforced by an increasing militarization of society. It was only when Milosevic' was overthrown that the democratization of Serbia could really begin. Since then nationalistic gender roles have slowly lost importance again. Instead the division of responsibilities between women and men has become more and more influenced by the implementation of market economy." (author's abstract)
