(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Based on the great importance of gainful employment as a medium of socialization, this article analyses the so-called standard employment relationship, which represents the normality and norm of gainful employment in Germany. With regard to three different feminist power contexts, this core labour and social policy institution is theorized as a power and domination relationship that virtually requires the exclusion of women, makes gender inequalities within the labour market and in regards to social security permanent, and that ultimately prevents changes in gender relations. The article further argues that the institution thereby acts as a barrier for an egalitarian social participation of women and men. In order to develop a framework for a new standard employment relationship, the authors outline a new concept for conceptualizing employment. This concept comprehends employment in its social context and as a result provides a basis for gender equality." (author's abstract)

Weiblich, feministisch, Intellektuelle: Paradoxie oder Tabu?
Titelübersetzung:Female, feminist, intellectual: paradox or taboo?
Autor/in:
Dackweiler, Regina-Maria
Inhalt: This article examines why female and feminist intellectuals are still not included in the historiography and sociology of intellectuals. The assumption is that there is an area of tensions related to this social role based on the dimensions of recognition, definition, authorization and belonging. In view of the origins of the second women's movement and taking recourse to explanatory approaches to feminist theorists and to Bourdieu's and Gramsci's social theories of intellectuals, it is possible to elaborate the paradox of the female and the taboo of the feminist intellectual. Based on a draft of the early political ideas of the second women's movement, the article calls for a new genealogy of intellectuals in Germany.

Inhalt: "In this paper, the authors discuss individualization theory as a parsimonious framework concept to describe and explain core points of fertility change in Western societies since the end of the 19th century. They emphasize two dimensions of individualization: firstly, the increase in status of the individual in cultural, social, economic and legal respects (human dignity); secondly, the increase in autonomy and freedom of choice. In contrast to other approaches based on individualization theory, the authors do not use the concept of self-realization in the sense of an increased orientation towards purely individual interests, not least because this concept has failed before the renewed rise in fertility that has recently been observed in some advanced societies. They discuss the relevance of these two dimensions of individualization in the context of the first transition and the 1960s with its declining fertility rates. Whereas the first demographic transition can be mainly explained by the rising status of children, which increased the costs of parenting and thus changed the interests of (potential) parents to have children, the transition in the 1960s resulted mainly from the rising status of women in education and the labor market. An important but hitherto neglected change was the increasing divorce rates, as the possibility to dissolve a marriage devalued the traditional gender contract of the breadwinner/ housewife model and decreased the willingness of women and men to invest in marriage and children. The contrast between the recently growing fertility rates in Sweden, France and the US with the continuously low fertility in the German-speaking countries can partly be seen as a result of different divorce regimes. Whereas the first group of countries has limited the entitlement to spousal support through alimonies, the second group has institutionalized extensive entitlements for mothers." (author's abstract)

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Feminist research has identified the social structures and gender ordern that are at the root of the widespread political disinterest in domestic work, private and professional care work. The consequences of such indifference, which escalate as capitalist and neoliberal concepts spread, can be seen in the current shortage of professional care workers. This indicates a fundamental social crisis: political focus on the market and its disregard for privately organised efforts in the bilateral process of social reproduction reduces welfare and erodes community Spirit."

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Industrial societies were predominantly male societies which blocked women from access to privileged positions. Present-day post-industrial service economies increasingly become female societies in which gender-specific inequalities lose salience, having undergone more profound changes since the 1960s than in the hundred previous years. Contemporary policy discourses do not yet adequately reflect this silent revolution and should focus more on two central challenges to social integration, i.e. class-related inequalities and the integration of immigrant children into our systems of higher learning."
