(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "The article deals with gender mainstreaming at universities and refers to the empirical results of a qualitative study carried out at 13 universities in Germany. The focus of the study was the professionalism of gender equality work in the context of the modernisation of higher education institutions in Germany. The results show the need for external incentives and for the university heads to take responsibility for implementing innovations focusing on gender equality. The universities use different concepts to integrate equality tasks on an institutional level into the universities' steering organs. Some have transformed their equal opportunities offices into internal gender competence centres or similar departments. Through reorganising structures and instruments for (equality) management in universities, essential conditions for expanding knowledge of gender issues are created, while concurrently promoting the organisational and individual professionalism of gender work." Gramespacher, Elke; Melzer, Kerstin
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "The contribution highlights the significance of dual career strategies at German universities and integrates them into gender- and diversity-orientated human resource management. The gender dimension focuses here on the increase of women in science and humanities. In regard to diversity, supporting dual career couples includes, for example, developing the variety of human resources; this enhances creative research and is advantageous in (inter)national competition among universities. Finally, the contribution indicates how dual career strategies in a gender- and diversity-oriented human resource policy at universities might be realized." (author's abstract)
Titelübersetzung:Gender Studies - between disciplinary marginalization and institutional establishment : on the current status of institutionalizing gender studies professorships at germanlanguage universities
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "The creation of Gender Studies professorships is one important aspect in the process of the long-term institutionalization of Women's Studies/Gender Studies at universities. The article is based on an analysis of the database 'Gender Studies professorships at Germanlanguage universities' (as of July 2010) regarding the total number of Gender Studies professorships, their distribution among the federal states (Germany), types of universities and disciplines, as well as regarding pay grade and duration of appointment. Furthermore, the article addresses the development of denominations. The resulting picture is multilayered: on the one hand, there are increasing numbers of Gender Studies professorships in the course of the last number of years as well as their distribution and a broad range of subjects; on the other hand, however, they continue to have little relevance (quantitatively) compared to the total number of professorships at the universities." Managing Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming an Hochschulen im Spannungsfeld zwischen Theorie und Praxis
Titelübersetzung:Between theory and practice : managing gender and diversity mainstreaming at universities

Leicht-Scholten, Carmen; Wolffram, Andrea
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "In recent years the topic of Gender and Diversity has gained increasing importance at universities. RWTH Aachen was the first university in Germany that established a strong and sustainable framework for the implementation of Gender and Diversity Management by creating the scientific unit 'Integration Team - Human Resources, Gender and Diversity Management' in late 2007. The scientific unit, which is situated at the rector's office, is based on four theoretically and practically oriented concepts. These derive from the fields of Gender Studies, Diversity Studies, Gender Mainstreaming and Diversity Management. The Integration Team thus benefits from a chance of perspectives as areas of conflict between theory and practice become apparent. Accordingly, the scientific unit can further an innovative development within higher education in the areas of organizational and human resources development, work life balance as well as research and teaching. The main objective is to establish equal opportunities, sustainability and competitiveness." (author's abstract)
