(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Information about the working conditions and motivational situation of young, predoctorate academic staff is scarce. Currently, most attention is drawn to the implementation of innovative concepts for the formation of future academics and researchers, such as the set-up of 'graduate schools' and structured doctoral programmes. This exploratory study focuses on those employed in the context of the 'traditional' dissertation scheme as junior academic staff. Using a sample of 122 persons, the distribution of total working time and the motivational structure of the workplace 'university' is assessed. Four types of motivation profiles are identified with varying frequencies depending on the duration of the doctoral candidates' contract. Data support the assumption of a U-shaped development of individual work motivation during the dissertation phase. Implications of these findings and future research needs are outlined."
