Inhalt: Contrary to many African states’ restrictive COVID-19 measures in the first half of 2020, which had severe socio-economic and political effects, the Malian government appeared more moderate in its fight against the pandemic and even introduced social measures to alleviate the effects of COVID-19 (measures). However, increasing anti-government protests still culminated in a military coup in August 2020. In order to shed light on government commu-
nication during that time as one factor in this paradox, this article focuses on the politics of care constructed by the Malian political elite between March and August 2020. The article uses an affective-discursive approach to analyse government communications and contrasts them with a feminist view of associations, NGOs, and activists. It shows that postcolonial, capitalist, and gendered path dependencies have decreased opportunities for care from the
Malian state and increased the intersectional vulnerabilities of Malians to COVID-19 measures. In addition, the article demonstrates how the affective politics of domestic and international care that were maintained through the presidential discourse used securitisation and solidarity to construct subject positions that, however, incorporate rather than challenge the aforementioned inequalities.

Inhalt: Peru is the South American country that suffers anaemia the most (matching only Guyana) according to the WHO. It affects more than 50% of preschool children, 42% of pregnant women and 40% of non-pregnant women of reproductive age. These prevalence levels put Peru in a similar situation to most African countries. In spite of the important role of anaemia in Peruvian society, the magnitude of the problem has not been acknowledged in its consequences and costs for the country. Furthermore, the Peruvian state has not developed a systematic policy for fighting anaemia. The aim of this study is to identify and estimate the economic costs for the Peruvian state and economy caused by the current prevalence of iron-deficiency anaemia among adults; to estimate the future economic costs for the Peruvian economy of the current prevalence of anaemia among children and to estimate the costs incurred by the state from the anaemia-related care provided, as well as that related to consequent health problems. Furthermore, the study also undertakes an estimation of the costs that the Peruvian state would incurred in order to prevent anaemia among children and pregnant women. The aim of this is to show the importance and implications of the problem and the possible savings and benefits of a stronger, more systematic and more effective policy for fighting anaemia.

Vom Recht auf Stillen zur Pflicht der Mutter: Elemente eines globalen Stilldiskurses

Inhalt: "Im Beitrag wird die historische Entwicklung
des gegenwärtigen globalen Stilldiskurses
dargestellt. Zentrales Merkmal dieser Diskurs-
Formation innerhalb der letzten 40 Jahre ist
die Verschiebung des Stillens aus dem privaten
Bereich der Mutter in die öffentliche
Sphäre der Gesundheitsförderung. Grundlage
dieser Untersuchung sind ausgewählte Policy-
Dokumente der internationalen Gesundheitsorganisation
WHO sowie der EU, die
den Diskurs über das Stillen im Wesentlichen
regulieren. Durch die Festsetzung von Stillen
als „normal“ und „natürlich“ sind Mütter
zahlreichen problematischen Fremdbeschreibungen
ausgesetzt, die ihre Entscheidungsund
Handlungsfähigkeit beschneiden. Der
Beitrag zeigt die Fallstricke dieser versteckten
Re-Biologisierung der Mutterrolle für aktuelle
Debatten um moderne Elternschaft auf." (Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "This paper outlines the historical development
of the current global breastfeeding
discourse. Within the last 40 years the discourse
formation has moved the question
of breastfeeding from the private domain of
the mother into the public sphere of health
promotion. This article examines several
WHO and EU policy documents that regulate
discourse on breastfeeding in public. Mothers
face several harmful imputations based
on the fact that breastfeeding is pictured as
“normal” and “natural”: Most importantly,
they restrict women’s decision-making ability
and capacity to act. This article exposes the
pitfalls of this hidden re-biologization of the
mother’s role for contemporary debates on
modern parenthood." (author's abstract)

Inhalt: Aim: The first goal of this study was to assess the prevalence of different health risk behaviours among Romanian young people. Next, the interrelationship between different health risk behaviours as well as age and gender differences with respect to health risk behaviours were examined. Subjects and methods: Self-administered questionnaires were completed by a sample of 1,598 junior high school students, senior high school students and university students from urban and rural areas of two counties of Romania. Results: The results showed that 31% of junior high school students, 59.7% of senior high school students and 64.8% of university students reported more than one risk behaviour. Many of the risk behaviours were likely to correlate with each other and the strongest correlation was found between smoking, alcohol-related behaviour and precocious sexual intercourse. Factor analysis revealed that among junior high school students all health risk behaviours loaded on one factor. In senior high school students and university students the risk behaviours split into two factors, based probably on their frequency and severity. Factor 1 comprised smoking, alcohol-related behaviours as well as precocious sexual intercourse, while factor 2 included less common behaviours: violence, delinquency and illicit drug use. No gender differences were observed regarding the relationship between health risk behaviours. Conclusion: The results stress the importance of developing prevention programmes among Romanian youth for the behaviours discussed. Further research is needed to identify how to best offer these programmes: as stand-alone programmes or as an integrated set of programmes and whether the same approach has to be taken for younger and older adolescents.

"Frauenbewegung" im Alter: Selbstdisziplinierung oder Weg zur Emanzipation?
Titelübersetzung:"Women’s movement" during old age: self-disciplining or path to emancipation?
Autor/in:
Uhlmann, Angelika
Quelle: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soziologie (DGS); Rehberg, Karl-Siegbert; Kongress "Die Natur der Gesellschaft"; Frankfurt am Main, 2008. S 1418-1423
