The short-term childcare service at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz allows the children of students and employees to be looked after when there is a long gap in the availability of regular childcare (e.g. due to a difference in the start of term and start of daycare provision) in addition to daycare and emergency childcare.

Children between a few months and 12 years old can be looked after by educational workers with all meals provided and flexible hours. Parents must use the service for at least one month and childcare is available for a maximum of 3 days per week. During the school summer holidays in Rhineland-Palatinate, the service may be extended to 5 days for a maximum of four weeks.

The contribution for using the short-term childcare service is €15 per day for students and €25 per day for employees.
