To enable a better balance between a research career and family, the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) has established a fund to support female (early career) researchers with family responsibilities and/or extensive committee duties. Funding for the measure comes from financial resources of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). On application, support can be provided from this fund for a student assistant or research assistant, within the scope of the available resources. The support of these assistants compensates for multiple demands and the associated extensions or delays in qualification projects or the personal research activities of (early career) researchers, arising from childcare and/or extensive committee duties, particularly as a result of the mandatory quota of women in academic self-governance stipulated by higher education law (Hochschulgesetz).
