Inhalt: Government of India effectively moving in the way of successive path in advancing gender
parity in higher education According to the most recent All India Survey on Higher Education it
is only about 3% fewer women enroll in higher education comparing to men. This indicates the
tremendous achievement of government of India. The fundamental intention behind is
empowering women in the entire sector’s.
University Grants Commission of India, Ministry of
higher education in India believes that a safe, secure and cohesive learning climate
is an
ineluctable precondition to quality education and research in Higher Education Institutes. It
should be the prime concern of educational administrators across the country to ensure that
students are safeguarded against attacks, threats and accidents, both man-
made and natural. It’s
just like the formula of SSS (safety, security and study). And also there is a suggestion by the
government of India to all the higher educational institutes, all universities may to have their
ordinance of their own and relevant statutory provisions to ensure the directions contained in the
guidelines are implemented in the best interests of student community.

Gender equality in German universities: vernacularising the battle for the best brains
Autor/in:
Zippel, Kathrin S.; Ferree, Myra Marx; Zimmermann, Karin
Quelle: Gender and Education, 28 (2016) 7, S 867-885
Inhalt: We examine how global pressures for competitiveness and gender equality have merged into a discourse of ‘inclusive excellence’ in the twenty-first century and shaped three recent German higher education programmes. After placing these programmes in the larger discourse about gender inequalities, we focus on how they adapt current global concerns about both being ‘the best’ and increasing ‘gender equality’ in locally specific ways, a process called vernacularisation. German equality advocates used ‘meeting international standards’ as leverage, drew on self-governance norms among universities, used formal gender plans as mechanisms to direct change, and set up competition to legitimate intervention. This specific incremental policy path for increasing women's status in German universities also mobilised the national funding agency and local gender equality officers as key actors, and placed particular emphasis on family friendliness as the expression of organisational commitment to gender equality.

Inhalt: The students are the reasons for the establishment of learning institutions which are the key factors to quality education. At present, the mission of the RTU-GS is to produce world-class professionals and leaders to meet the multifarious expectations and needs of society. Since 1977 up to presents, no one has ever conducted a research on graduate students' assessment of the Graduate School and its student services. It is in this end that the researchers brought about an exit interview to Graduate School graduating students. This study used the causal comparative design and had 80 respondents representing the RTU graduating students' population for school year 2012-2013. The respondents were described as to gender, age, GS course and number of year of degree completion. From the salient findings of the study, the researchers concluded that the GS graduating students are very satisfied with the personal impact of education, the development of their professional skill, and the personnel and various offices. The GS students suggest the fixed format on thesis writing, special lanes or windows for business transaction and the maintenance of good interpersonal relationship between school personnel and students. The overall rating of the GS students of the education is very satisfactory. Finally, there are significant differences in the assessment of GS students by personnel and offices.

Overthrowing the First Mountain: Chinese Student-Migrants and the Geography of Power
Autor/in:
Kajanus, Anni
Quelle: Journal of Current Chinese Affairs, 44 (2015) 3, S 79-102
Inhalt: "This article uses Mahler and Pessar's (2001, 2006) model of 'geography of power' to interrogate how the general dynamic of Chinese student migration generates a variety of experiences at the individual level. Each Chinese student-migrant embarks on their journey from a different position vis-à-vis the flows and interconnections of the international education market. Some of them set out to achieve concrete goals, while others are motivated by a more intangible mission to become cosmopolitan subjects. As they move around, their shifting position in the hierarchies of nationality, class, gender, and generation influences their decision-making and their experiences. These power systems function simultaneously on multiple geographical scales, exemplified by the contradictory ways gender operates in the family, education, work, and marriage. To further develop the connection this model makes between personal characteristics, cognitive processes, and various power systems, I draw attention to the politics of ordinary affects." Social class, gender and the pace of academic life: What kind of solution is slow?
Titelübersetzung:Soziale Klasse, Gender und die Geschwindigkeit des akademischen Lebens: Welche Lösung bringt Entschleunigung?
Autor/in:
Mendick, Heather
Quelle: Forum Qualitative Sozialforschung / Forum: Qualitative Social Research, 15 (2014) 3, 16 S
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "My starting point for this article is the increasing pace of academic life. As the other articles in this special section evidence, the Slow movement, which seeks to challenge our contemporary obsession with speed, is being taken up by many in order to intervene into 'fast academia'. However, in this article, I suggest we should pause and question what kind of a solution this offers to the current crisis of speed. Working auto/biographically and using examples drawn from popular culture, I argue that Slow is both classed and gendered, re/producing wider patterns of inclusion and exclusion. Specifically, I suggest that Slow naturalises a particular relationship to self which requires not just stability of employment but an individualist way of being, constituting selves that calculate and invest in them-selves for the future." Scientific Literacy of Undergraduate Chemistry Students in the University of the West Indies, Barbados: Individual and Joint Contributions of Age, Sex and Level of Study
Quelle: International Letters of Social and Humanistic Sciences, (2014) 13, S 41-55
Inhalt: The purpose of this study was two-fold. Firstly, to determine the level of scientific literacy of Chemistry undergraduate students at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus and secondly to investigate the individual and joint contributions of sex, age and level of study to the level of scientific literacy of the students. A total of one hundred and one (101) Chemistry undergraduate students from across the preliminary, 1st, 2nd and final years, participated in the study. The instrument chosen for this investigation, was the Basic Scientific Literacy Questionnaire (BSLQ) developed by Richard Carrier in 2001, which consisted of twenty-four (24) "True" and "False" questions. The instrument was found to be reliable with Crombach Alpha value of 0.6. The contributions of the variables sex, age range and level of study to the level of scientific literacy, were also analyzed and these were done via Independent Sample t-tests, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and linear regression. A confidence level of 95% was the set level for all of the analyses conducted. It was found that overall, the Chemistry undergraduate students are at a "Good" level of scientific literacy. There were no statistically significant differences in the level of scientific literacy based on age range and level of study. However, sex was found to have contributed most and significantly to variations in the level of scientific literacy of the undergraduate chemistry students.

The perils of professionalism: lawyers, teachers, and engineers in Nazi Germany
Titelübersetzung:The perils of professionalism
Autor/in:
Jarausch, Konrad H.
Quelle: Historical Social Research, Supplement, (2012) 24, S 157-183
Inhalt: "The contradiction between the professions' progressive self-representation and their self-seeking opportunism was especially disastrous in their collaboration with National Socialism. As a result of the overcrowding and unemployment in the late Weimar Republic, many well educated Germans lent a willing ear to the radical propaganda of NS-affiliates which clamored for the exclusion of Jews, Leftists and women. While young, male, Aryan university graduates profited from the Nazi seizure of power, their hopes for a re-professionalization were quickly dashed by the loss of autonomy and ideological indoctrination in favor of race, war and empire. Many professionals therefore experienced the Third Reich as a severe de-professionalization by decreasing their number, weakening their training, abolishing their organizational freedom and involving them in atrocities. On the basis of the German example, the article therefore tries to warn against the consequences of ignoring the ethical foundations of liberal professionalism." (author's abstract)

(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "In their future profession, students studying to become teachers make a significant contribution to the political socialization of the younger generation. Therefore it is important to explore their political democratic values. The indicators covered in a standardized questionnaire point to an ambivalence and indifference. Although these students have a pronounced political interest and a self-positioning leaning to the left, democratic principles are sufficiently deep-seated in only half of them. Multivariate analysis shows the co-variation of these aspects. Additionally, there are specific effects of gender and the number of semesters studied. Other characteristics such as origin and the subjects studied play a minor role." (author's abstract)
