Inhalt: Feminists, among others, have found Eve's representation in Milton's Paradise Lost problematic over the last centuries. Some of them consider Eve to be Adam’s inferior while others find traces of egalitarian relationship between them. This study uses Penelope Brown and Stephen C. Levinson's Politeness Theory and applies it to the conversations between Adam and Eve prior to the Fall in order to address this issue. It is demonstrated in this article that, before the Fall, Eve always exercises less power than Adam except for a brief moment that she achieves equality.

Inhalt: "Die Rezeption 'klassischer' lesbisch-feministischer Theoretikerinnen, wie u.a. (Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Within Queer Theory 'classical' lesbian-feminist contributions, such as those by Audre Lorde, Gloria Anzaldúa, Monique Wittig and Adrienne Rich, have been adopted very selectively and sometimes in a highly superficial way. Ambivalences and inconsistencies have been either marginalised or interpreted within a linear historiography of queer progress. Hence, not only the complexity and analytical potential of these works tend to get lost, furthermore, also their 'alternative' (queer) strategies and visions for a deconstruction of (racialized) gender binaries and institutionalized heterosexuality are marginalised. This article sheds a critical light on these selective reading practices and highlights the transgressive implications of their versions of queer/ness. One focus of the article lies on the gender subversive and spiritual implications of Anzaldúa’s feminist-lesbian/patlache standpoint epistemologies. Furthermore, the articles discusses Wittigs idea of a (linguistic) universalization of an (anti-essentialist) idea of the 'feminine'/'the lesbian' as well as her materialist and class-theoretical conceptualization of the 'lesbian'. The paper asks how these ideas can be read and interpreted as an intervention into dominant notions of Queer Theory." (author's abstract)
Titelübersetzung:Thinking queerfeminist politics as affectively structured paradoxes
Autor/in:
Nay, Yv E.
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "The article argues that a critique of heternormativity as the contrasting juxtaposition of normalization and subversion processes does not grasp the simultaneity and ambivalences of these processes, and thus proofs to be an inadequate tool to theorize queerfeminist politics. The author draws on examples of the politics of queer families and the entanglement of normalizing and subverting impacts therein to reconsider the concept of heteronormativity through an affect theory lens. This reconsideration of heteronormativity is the starting point for a threefold reformulation of queerfeminist politics: as affectively structured by paradoxes, as a non-linear temporality devoid of a narrative of progress, and as a locus for apparently apolitical socialities." Western feminist consciousness in Buchi Emecheta's The joys of motherhood
Autor/in:
Barfi, Zahra; Alaei, Sarieh
Quelle: International Letters of Social and Humanistic Sciences, (2015) 42, S 12-20
Inhalt: Feminism is a collection of movements which struggles for women's rights. Focusing on gender as a basis of women's sexual oppression, feminist scholarship attempts to establish equal rights for women politically, economically, socially, personally, etc. The Joys of Motherhood highlights Buchi Emecheta's critical view toward colonialism and racism affecting Third world women's lives. Besides this, Emecheta goes further to display African women's invisibility and marginalization-which were out of sight for a long time-in terms of some aspects of Western feminist discourse. Her creative discourse, in this regard, casts further light upon the issue of gender oppression in African feminist study. Hence, this study attempts to examine the way in which Emecheta furthers Western feminist ideology.
Gender, reflexivity, and positionality in male research in one's own community with filipino seafarers' wives
Autor/in:
Galam, Roderick G.
Quelle: Forum Qualitative Sozialforschung / Forum: Qualitative Social Research, 16 (2015) 3, 26 S
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: This article reflects on the epistemological, methodological, and ethical issues related to undertaking a cross-gender research (male researcher with female participants) in one's own community. It also examines issues of analysis and representation germane to taking a gendered perspective in this study of the lives and experiences of left-behind women. The article frames the discussion of these issues within four interrelated sites or levels of reflexivity: theoretical reflexivity, gender and fieldwork relations, positionality and the insider/outsider dynamic, and representation. The conclusion reflects on the ethical obligation a researcher conducting a study in one's own community bears and the consequences of this ethical burden on representation. (author's abstract)
Inhalt: The rural is often constructed as the opposite to the urban, associated with lagging behind or idolized as a place of nostalgia. Rural women were - even in feminist discourses - devalued or ignored. These tendencies are intensified by science, politics, administration and the media by ideologizations, the homogenizing of society and the dichotomization of the urban and the rural. Using the post-structural approaches of construction, deconstruction and reconstruction, this essay examines closely the reciprocal relationship between rural subjects and structures. It reflects how rural social research and rural gender studies can contribute to a (self-) critical discourse.
