The authors, Anke Lipinsky and Claudia Schredl, analyzed survey instruments on sexual assault from nine survey studies used for data collection in empirical research in higher education and science contexts. The CEWS researchers’ mapping results highlight the impact of conceptual choices in surveys of sexual harassment and assault that were made with the research context and intention in mind, but which make it difficult to compare prevalence levels across countries. The selective comparison method used here points to the possibilities and limitations of cross-cultural interpretation of prevalence data.
