The Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) is a study conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which aims to examine adult competencies in an international comparison. The PIAAC study is conducted at 10-year intervals. The first wave of the survey was conducted in 2011 and 2012. The survey is based on a representative population sample (16- to 65-year-olds). In Germany, PIAAC was also transformed into a panel (PIAAC-L), in which participants from PIAAC 2012 in Germany who agreed to be potentially re-surveyed were re-surveyed over three years (2014, 2015 and 2016). In Germany, several national extensions of the PIAAC survey were carried out yielding additional data for older adults (66-80 years of age), an oversample of 26-55-year-old adults in former Eastern Germany, and data from a longitudinal follow-up of the German 2011/2012 respondents.
The RDC PIAAC main activities are:
- Data preparation and documentation
- Data access
- User support
- Knowledge transfer (e.g. workshops)
- Research
